When the XC40 was launched, only 200 units were kept for sale at a special introductory price. Now, after two weeks, due to its increasing demand, Volvo India has launched the Inscription and Momentum variants. The Inscription is the range-topping variant and Momentum is the base variant. The Inscription is priced at Rs 43.9 Lakhs and the base Momentum is priced at Rs 39.9 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The deliveries of the other two variants will be starting later this year. Currently, the R-Design is priced at Rs 42.9 Lakhs, which was earlier 39.9 Lakhs (ex-showroom). While there are not many differences in the mid-spec and top-spec variant, the base one loses out on a lot of things. With the launch of Volvo XC40 Inscription and Momentum variants, the entire global range is complete and now available in India.
The Volvo XC40 Inscription gets 18-inch alloy wheels, wireless mobile phone charging, 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, Volvo’s 9.0-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered tailgate, and heated front and rear seats. These features are found in the R-Design too. Additionally, this variant gets a different design and finish for the grille, six-spoke, diamond-cut alloy wheels, subtle chrome elements for the exterior, driftwood inlays for the interior, electrically-foldable rear-seat headrests, a crystal gear knob and a charging point in the boot.
The Momentum trim loses out on some features. It misses out on wireless mobile phone charging, Harman Kardon sound system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered tailgate, and heated front and rear seats. However, it still gets panoramic Sunroof, AWD, front radar, leather upholstery, 9” centre touchscreen, Hill Descent Control, rear parking Camera and more. The safety features are also standard amongst all the variants.
For safety, the XC40 gets ABS with 8-airbags, Traction Control, ESP, Hill Start Assist and Descent Control and Parking Assist. Other trademark Volvo safety features include Volvo’s Radar based city safety, Oncoming lane mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pilot Assist with traffic management capability, Blind spot information and Run-off-road mitigation. The Momentum misses out on the Adaptive cruise control but gets the standard one.
The Volvo XC40 Inscription and Momentum trims also get the same 2.0 Litre D4 Diesel engine. This engine is capable of producing 190 BHP of power and 400 Nm of torque to all the wheels. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The XC40 faces rivalry with BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA and the upcoming Jaguar E-Pace.
