The aftermarket industry for conversion of regular internal combustion engine bikes into fully electric powertrains is really gaining momentum lately. Here is one such example.

If you were looking for the world’s first fully-electric Bajaj Pulsar and its review, look no further. This video captures the entire conversion process in a step-by-step manner. Bajaj Pulsar is arguably the most popular bike in the entry-level segment in the country. The model used in the video is an old one that a ton of people are currently using. Hence, it makes sense to try the electrification of such a popular product to boost the adoption. Here are the details of the conversion process.

The video begins by showing the removal of the traditional engine, exhaust pipe, the rear tyre and all the related components from the bike. The electric motor is installed at the centre of the rear wheel. This is known as the wheel-mounted motor setup. However, the challenging and the most impressive part is the construction of a customisable, yet simple battery pack. The box for holding the battery is measured and planned to be placed in the place of the engine. After the measurements have been taken and the construction is complete the battery building process begins.

Interestingly, the battery pack is not simply bought from the market but created in-house to fit the motorcycle. A box is painted black and hindered of battery cells are placed in trays one above the other. The entire battery pack is constructed according to the electricals and placed into the box with insulating material stuffed on the sides of the cells for added safety. After the cells are placed appropriately inside the box, it is sealed using nuts and bolts and the connections are added. The ECU, Speedometer, etc are all connected to ensure the normal functioning of these components.
