First launched in 2017, the Tata Nexon has already received two major facelifts, in 2020 and 2023. Meanwhile, fresh sightings suggest another major update in the pipeline.
Tata Motors seems to be quietly working on an update for its best-selling SUV, the Tata Nexon. A heavily camouflaged test mule has now been spotted, and while details are still under wraps, the level of disguise strongly hints at something more than just a minor update. At first glance, it could have been dismissed as a new powertrain test. But full camouflage usually tells a different story, and in this case, it points towards a potential facelift in the works.
The Nexon is already one of the most versatile SUVs in the country when it comes to fuel choices. It’s currently available with petrol, diesel, CNG, and even an electric version, which is something no other car in India offers at the moment. That opens up another possibility that Tata could be testing a CNG automatic combination, which is currently missing from the lineup. Interestingly, rival manufacturers are also working on similar updates, making this a logical next step. But here’s the catch: a powertrain update alone usually doesn’t justify full-body camouflage. And that brings us back to the facelift theory, which still seems more plausible.

What Do The Spy Shots Reveal?
The biggest talking point here is the extent of camouflage. Typically, manufacturers don’t go all out with disguise unless there are visible changes underneath. And that’s exactly what makes this Nexon test mule interesting. However, look closely, and the changes don’t seem dramatic, at least from the outside. The overall silhouette remains identical to the current model. Key elements like the wheels, headlights, and tail-lamps appear unchanged as well.
This suggests that Tata might be going for a subtle refresh rather than a full redesign. Think along the lines of minor tweaks instead of a complete overhaul. Where things could get more interesting is inside the cabin. Some reports hint at possible updates to interior materials, finishes, and feature additions. This aligns with Tata’s recent strategy of keeping its products fresh with continuous upgrades rather than waiting for a full generational change. In simple terms, don’t expect a radical new Nexon, but do expect a more polished one.
What Should You Expect?
Putting all the clues together, this upcoming update looks like a refinement-focused facelift rather than a game-changing one.

What you shouldn’t expect is a complete redesign or drastic mechanical changes.
