It has been very long since we saw any new Hindustan Motors Ambassador models coming up but it has been justified now as today the company has launched the latest BS-IV compliant Hindustan Motors Ambassador Grand. The new model is a face-lifted one and gets some of the most desirable features. The new model comes as no surprise considering the lagging sales of Ambassador over the past couple of months with as low as 500 units a month. The BS IV compliant model is powered by a MPFI petrol engine which comes as a disappointment since the company could have adopted a CRDI diesel engine instead. Increase In Petrol And Diesel Prices After BS4 Emission Norms

In 13 cities where BS-IV Emission norms have been implemented, the Petrol and Diesel Prices have also increased by about 1%. The effective change in the price of Petrol is 50 paisa per litre and in price of Diesel is 26 Paisa per litre. This increase is because of the reason that BS4 petrol and diesel is more refined and purified compared to the BS3 Petrol and diesel reactively. This Bharat stage 4 emission norms are expected to bring down the emission level by about 40% over the BS3 norms gradually. Although this will not be a sudden change as the existing vehicles will not be as low in emissions as the new ones with BS4 compatible engine, but it will gradually help. One of the major flaw with BS4 Emission norms implementation is that BS3 Fuel may damage the BS4 Engines. Indian Car Prices Increase In April 2010 On BS-IV Implementation

Most of the car companies including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai , Chevrolet , Mahindra And Mahindra, Fiat, Toyota, Ford are all coming up with engine upgrades in their existing car lineup to make them BS4 emission norms compliant. In this process, the extra cost of the cars is going to be put on the buyer only. The car prices of all the cars which are getting a BS4 engine upgrade have either been increased already or will be increased in the first week of April 2010. Auto Industry to Indian Government – Defer BS-III,BS-IV Implementation In The Country

Sometime back we informed you about the implementation of BS III and BS4 norms that is to take place in our country with 11 cities upgrading to BS-IV while other to BS-III and also made our readers aware of the harmful effects of using lower grade fuels on BS-IV compatible engines. 13 major cities are to face the implementation of BS IV fuel namely National Capital Region, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmadabad, Pune, Surat, Kanpur and Agra. Concerns are getting higher and with the stress level rising as1st April is around the corner, The Indian Government might have to defer the implementation of Bharat Stage III and Bharat Stage IV norms. The root cause of the tension created is the unavailability of the required fuel. Mr Pawan Goenka, President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), has informed the media-persons about the request made to the government for deferring the deadline of 1st April 2010 to some other date. Fiat Palio To Go Away Slowly

Fiat has decided not to upgrade the Fiat Palio to comply with BS4 emission norms, so it will stop selling in 13 states after 1st April 2010. Eventually it will be phased out when the norms will be applicable to the rest of the country sometime in future. Newer cars by Fiat like Fiat Linea and Fiat Grand Punto will fill the gap. Poor Fuel May Damage BS-IV Engines – Problem With BS4 Emission Norms Implementation

As days are passing, 1st April 2010 is coming nearer which is the deadline for the introduction of BS-IV emission compliant vehicles and the availability of higher grade fuel (basically BS-III) will be a matter of concern for the auto firms. Harmful Effects Of Lower Grade Fuel On BS-IV Compatible Engines According to technical experts, except for 11 cities providing BS-III fuel the rest of the country runs on the lower grade BS-II fuel. Experts say that running an older engine compliant with BS-I or BS-II fuel, on the richer BS-III and BS-IV does not cause any problem, but the problem arises when BS-IV compliant engines are made to run on inferior quality fuels. Running such a new generation engine on inferior quality fuel causes severe damage to the Internal parts, eventually resulting in poor fuel efficiency, reduced engine life, lower pick-up, and refinement problems and the reason behind overall reduction in the performance of the vehicle is the High Sulphur content and Lower Octane levels. BS-4 or BS-IV (Bharat Stage 4) Emission norms are a set of norms and rules which set the guidelines for the permissible emission levels. The Emission norms are are classified under category of vehicles i.e. Commercial Vehicle, Passenger Vehicle, Light Duty , Heavy Duty Vehicle etc. & further classified under Diesel & Petrol (Gasoline) engine.
