The 2019 Maruti Wagon R is on track to make its debut in India before the month of April next year. The test mule of the next-gen iteration of this compact hatchback has been spotted testing in India on a number of occasions. This hints that the project for the new Maruti Wagon R is in its final stages before its productions commence.
Going by the recent media reports, it is likely that the 2019 Maruti Wagon R (Read More) is not going to use Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform. As a result of this, the prices will remain competitive as before. Currently, Wagon R retails in-between a price of INR 4.15 lakhs to 5.36 lakhs. With the generation update, expect the prices to increase slightly.
As is the case with all the generation updates, the exteriors of the 2019 Maruti Wagon R will feature an all-new design. Going by what we see from the spy images, Suzuki can directly bring the 2018 iteration of the Wagon R currently on sale in Japan. This is the same unit which is currently under test in India as a fully-electric vehicle.
Whatever it may be, the new iteration of the WagonR will retain its original tall-boy looks. Up-front, the top-spec variants will continue to have projector headlamps and might even LED DRL. Top-Spec variants could get alloy wheels and LED tail-lamps as well.
Similarly, the cabin of the 2019 Maruti WagonR will have an all-new layout. Just like the exteriors, it can be an exact copy of the Japanese spec version of this compact hatchback. However, it will be too early to comment anything concrete on this.
One thing is for sure, top-spec variants will get a touchscreen infotainment system. Not only this, but this hatchback can even sport an automatic climate control feature. Maruti Suzuki has made sure that each an every new car it launches, comes with the basic safety equipment as standard. Hence, for the 2019 Wagon R too, we will get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts across all variants.
For the 2019 Maruti Wagon R, chances are high that the Indo-Japanese automaker continues to use the existing 1.0-litre petrol engine. This 3-cylinder unit is capable of producing 67 BHP of power along with 90 Nm of peak torque. It will come as standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox. And just as it is now, a 5-speed AMT unit will be on offer as well.
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been a benchmark when it comes to offering the maximum bang for your buck in the compact hatchback segment. However, with the introduction of newer models which are better equipped and designed, this car is in a dire need to a makeover. Not that this has affected the sales of this car in any way. Even today, the Maruti WagonR continues to populate the list of India’s top 10 selling cars month after month.
