The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE will be launched in India in January 2020 and it will come with three BS-6 engine options – two diesel and one petrol.
Mercedes-Benz will launch the 2020 GLE SUV in India in January 2020, ahead of the Auto Expo. We had already reported about the launch timeline earlier but now, we have come to know that the prices for the Mercedes-Benz 2020 GLE will start from about Rs. 90 lakhs, ex-showroom. Bookings for the new GLE have already begun for a token of Rs 5 lakh and it will come in three variants with BS-6 compliant engines and 4-matic all-wheel drivetrain as standard.
But let’s address the looks first. The 2020 GLE looks much more upright and in essence, a smaller version of the GLS. The face gets Merc’s twin-slat grille with the Mercedes logi in the middle. There are new LED headlamps that come with with Mercedes’ twin eyebrow DRLs. In profile, the GLE looks familiar to the existing model, thanks to an almost identical roofline and glass area. There are new dual tone alloys to body cladding to accentuate on the SUV stance. The rear end is completely new with redesigned LED tail lamps that are much sleeker than before and a dual exhaust setup.
The interiors also have a brand new design language. The dashboard is simplistic and is dominated by a twin screen setup that uses the latest iteration of Mercedes’ MBUX software. Below the infotainment are the four AC vents and the aircraft style toggles for the climate control. The cabin is really opulent with extensive use of rich materials and its much more spacious than before as well, thanks to an increase in the wheelbase.
The GLE is a pretty well loaded car in terms of equipment. It will come with a panoramic sunroof, THERMATIC 4-zone automatic climate control, MBUX multimedia infotainment system, 64-colour ambient lighting, active parking assist, 7 airbags, 19-inch wheels, LED headlamps and taillamps. The Elite variant adds MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with ultra range high beam, 4MATIC with variable torque distribution, AIRMATIC suspension, 20-inch wheels, 360-degree camera, electrically adjustable rear seats, and intelligent headlight control plus.
We also reported about the engine options of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE in India sometime ago from a leaked document. There’ll be three powertrain options on offer: GLE 300 d, GLE 400 d and GLE 450. Let’s start with the GLE 300 d. It will be powered by a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which delivers 245PS and 500Nm of torque. The GLE 400 d will be powered by a BS6-complaint 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged diesel engine which puts out 330PS and 700Nm of torque.
Mercedes-Benz is just offering one petrol engine with the GLE 450. It is a 3.0-litre BS6-complaint inline-six engine which puts out an impressive 367PS and 500Nm of torque. This engine will also gets a 48V mild-hybrid system. All the three engines will be paired to Mercedes’ 9-speed automatic gearbox with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive. The new GLE will be displayed at the Auto Expo 2020 where you can get a first hand look at it. When launched here, it will take on the likes of the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and the Volvo XC90.
