Piaggio has launched the BS-6 compliant versions of Vespa and Aprilia scooters. The latter further gets new 160cc engine as well.

All Vespa and Aprilia scooters are BS-6 compliant now. Vespa gets BS-6 updates to its 125cc and 150cc engines. The Aprilia gets BS-6 125cc engine for the SR125 and Storm 125, but a new 160cc engine for the SR150. Now, it is known as SR160.

All the BS-6 Aprilia and Vespa scooters now get fuel injection as standard. The 160cc engine produces 11 PS of peak power. That nearly 1 PS more than the BS-4 engine. While further details are awaited, the 125cc engines are likely to make 9.4 BHP and 8.2 Nm of peak torque.

If this is the correct price list, then BS-6 Vespa and Aprilia scooters may have received the highest price hike. Usually, most of the other scooters in India have received between Rs 5000-8000 and all have received Fuel Injection as well.

In other news, Piaggio is participating in the Auto Expo. It is likely to bring a couple of new scooters, including a family-focused commuter and a maxi-scooter. The latter might use the new 160cc engine onboard. Not only that but Aprilia and Vespa might get bigger engines in future too.

The company is believed to be developing 200cc engines for the Indian market. Right now, Aprilia and Vespa produce the most powerful scooter in India, on a large scale production. Only they both have a say in the 150cc scooter segment.
