The Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory and Tuono 1100 RR showcased at the Auto Expo are still BS4 compliant and will be sold in India only till March 31st. They come to India via the CBU route.

At the Piaggio stall at the 2020 Auto Expo, there were two rather special motorcycles with Aprilia badges on them. These were the 2020 Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory and the Tuono 1100 RR. Aprilia has launched these motorcycles in India. The 2020 Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory has been priced at Rs 22.42 lakh while the Tuono 1100 RR retails for the price of Rs 17.96 lakh (ex-showroom India). However, these motorcycles are still Euro 4 (BS4) complaint and that means they can’t be sold in the country after April 2020.

There’s yet another catch with these two motorcycles. Like its sister company, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia too gets its large-capacity motorcycles to India via the CBU route. That leaves the bikemaker with limited time (around 40 days) to get the motorcycle from Italy, clear the Customs, and get it registered for customers before the BS6 deadline. Aprilia is still yet to clarify the logistics in this regard.

But coming back to the motorcycles themselves, both the 2020 Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory and the Tuono 1100 RR are powered by a 1078cc V4 engine. However, the engine is tuned quite differently for the two motorcycles and even have varying power outputs. While the RSV4 1100 produces a manic 217PS of power and 122Nm of peak torque, the Tuono 1100 RR is a more road-focused motorcycle and produces 175PS and 121Nm.

The engine output figures are not the only difference. Both motorcycles also get a different suspension setup. The track-focused RSV4 1100 Factory gets fully adjustable Ohlins and Brembo Stylema brake calipers, while the road-focused Tuono gets Sachs suspension and brakes via Brembo M50 calipers upfront.

In India, the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory competes with the BMW S 1000 RR, Honda CB 1000 RR Fireblade, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR, and Ducati Panigale V4 S. Its streetfighter cousin meanwhile faces competition from the Honda CB1000R, Kawasaki Z1000, and the soon-to-be-launched Ducati Streetfighter V4.
