Confirming the rumours, new spy shots confirm that Tata is indeed working on Altroz 1.2 Litre turbo-petrol. It is likely to launch in India by October.

Turbo petrol engines in every size of cars is the new trend. After seeing so many new turbo charged cars launched in recent years, we have another one coming up. Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol is the next one from the Indian manufacturer.

Spy shots of the Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol being tested, have been leaked online. The test mule has a note written on its front windshield which says X451 1.2 VGTI BS6. That’s the codename for Altroz with a 1.2 Litre VGTI (Variable Geometry) turbo petrol engine.

As of now, the technical specifications remain unknown. It will use the three-cylinder 1.2L turbo-motor that comes on Tiago JTP and Nexon. The power figures are unknown, but they should be around 105 BHP and 250 Nm of peak torque.

With these power figures, it will come in as a performance-oriented hatchback. It will compete with the likes of Polo GT TSI and upcoming Hyundai i20 1.0 Litre turbo petrol. Polo produces just about 104 BHP with its 1.2 Litre four-cylinder turbo motor.

Also, Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol is most likely to get a new 7-speed DCT gearbox. The hatch is yet to receive an automatic gearbox. While the petrol and diesel variants could go with an AMT, the turbo engine will get its own transmission.

Cosmetic changes for Altroz Turbo would include different alloy wheels, new colour options, the badging on the front grille and boot lid, chrome exhaust tips and all-black interior theme. Features will remain the same as seen on the current one.
