Coming back to what’s under the hood, the BS6 Skoda Rapid will be powered by a new 1.0L TSI petrol engine. This engine produces 110bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. As mentioned earlier, the same engine is also offered on the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and the Vento sedan as well. Initially, the BS6 Rapid will only be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and the automatic gearbox option will be introduced at a later point of time.

Going into the BS6 era, the Skoda Rapid is now a petrol-only model and Skoda does not have any plans of bringing back the diesel engine anytime soon. The 1.5-litre TDI and 1.6-litre MPI engine options have been discontinued. Skoda showcased the Rapid Matte Concept at the Auto Expo 2020, and that came with the new turbo petrol motor under its hood. Skoda had even said that they are going to launch the showcased concept in India sometime later in the year. However, with the current coronavirus crisis, it is uncertain as when it will actually come.
