Honda-CB4X

Honda had showcased the CB4X at the EICMA 2019 as a concept and now, the manufacturer has filed a patent for the same which means it could be production reality soon. Most importantly, its an inline four-cylinder ADV!

Honda first showcased the CB4X concept at the 2019 EICMA and it soon might as well come into production. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer has now filed a patent for the motorcycle, images of which have been leaked online. Although conceptualized as an adventure tourer, this motorcycle is more inclined towards the sportier side. The idea of four-cylinder adventure tourer sounds quite exciting, particularly when its meant to be agile around corners.

Think of this motorcycle as a cross between a sports bike and a tourer. Something on the likes of the MV Agusta Tourismo Velocce 800. The design language is very aggressive and yet quite minimalistic. The front portion is what constitutes the bulk of the motorcycle while the rear is very sleek and slender. The motorcycle is semi-faired around a slim fuel tank and the windscreen sits flush with the fairing. It has very slim LED headlamps and the windscreen might be electronically controlled.

There are not much details about this motorcycle yet but we know that it gets an aluminum subframe. What really suggests that this will be road focused are the small 17-inch wheels at both ends with road-biased tires and of course, the inline four cylinder engine. Adventure tourer motorcycles mostly use V-Twins, parallel-twins of flat-twin engines or in some case, single-cylinder engines that have a characteristic torque-ey bottom-end, something that’s very important for off-roading. Inline four cylinder engines however produce their peak power and torque right much higher up in the rev range. That sure wouldn’t be ideal when navigating through a tricky off-road section as slow speeds.

Honda hasn’t revealed the engine displacement of this motorcycle yet but we are guessing it will be something around the 650cc mark. That’s because Honda already has the CB500X and the NC750X in the international market for the mid-displacement adventure tourer segment. Thus, the CB4X could be positioned perfectly between them. It would then rival against the likes of the Yamaha Tracer 700 in the international market.

You can expect a production version of the motorcycle at EICMA 2020 or even 2021.

The CB4X also gets some really premium components in terms of hardware. The concept motorcycle at the 2019 EICMA featured fully adjustable suspension setup, Brembo calipers, SC project exhaust, and electronically adjustable windscreen. You can expect to see a production version of the Honda CB4X at the EICMA 2020 or even 2021 if the coronavirus crisis takes a longer time to be resolved.
