Mercedes has released some driving footages of the AVTR concept and it will simply blow your mind away seeing how this car drives. It was inspired by fictional characters in the Avatar universe who could communicate with flying mountain banshees telepathically.

When it comes to concept cars, Mercedes-Benz arguably makes the one of the most iconic and futuristic concept cars that gets people drooling over them at major motor shows. And if you keenly follow motor shows, you will perhaps remember the Mercedes AVTR concept car from CES 2019. If the name already doesn’t suggest it, then we will like to mention that the Mercedes AVTR concept was the result of a collaboration between Mercedes and James Cameron, director of the Avatar movie franchise.

Mercedes has now released some driving footages of the AVTR concept and it will simply blow your mind away. The AVTR concept is actually inspired by fictional beings in the Avatar universe called the Na’avi who are able to merge with the flying mountain banshees and giving them instructions telepathically. Incidentally, a similar philosophy has been used for the development of the AVTR concept, in the sense that the driver actually interacts with the car almost telepathically. In fact, there are none of the usual elements of the car here in the AVTR, not even a steering wheel.

“Instead of a conventional steering wheel, the multifunctional control element in the center console allows human and machine to merge. By placing the hand on the control unit, the interior comes to life and the vehicle recognizes the driver by his or her heartbeat and breathing,” Mercedes noted. The AVTR concept also uses an unique graphene-based organic cell chemistry which Mercedes claims is a revolution in the progression of battery technology.

“For the first time, the VISION AVTR concept vehicle is using a revolutionary battery technology based on a graphene-based organic cell chemistry that is completely clean of rare earths and metals. The materials of the battery are compostable and therefore completely recyclable. In this way, electric mobility becomes independent of fossil resources. As a result, Mercedes-Benz underlines the high relevance of a future circular economy in the raw materials sector,” Mercedes revealed.

Did we also mention that most elements on this car including its battery is fully recyclable. Most materials used for the car have been chosen with sustainability in mind as well. The car you see in this video here is however more likely a  standard electric prototype testbed and the technologies used here is still in the nascent stage of their development. However, this is something truly revolutionary in the motoring world and automobiles of the future might be very different from what we have known them to be.
