The EV wave is on the rise and Hyundai wants to take the charge as it plans to launch the Globally Acclaimed Hyundai Ioniq 5 in India in 2022.

Hyundai has announced the introduction of the Ioniq 5 EV in India for 2022. The all-electric CUV has received a ton of accolades over its relatively brief lifetime including the prestigious “2022 World Car of the Year.” With the Kona electric already in our market, the Ioniq 5 is set to lead the EV charge in India for Hyundai with the plan of extending the EV portfolio to 6 cars by 2028. Based on the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), the Ioniq 5 will belong to a segment of its own.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV – Design

The Ioniq 5 carries a unique but contemporary design befitting an EV. However, it is much more understated and minimalist compared to some of the more polarising EVs out there. The front end has a sloping bonnet line neatly merging into the sealed black grille area, dual-LED DRLs integrated into the sleek headlamps, a muscular bumper, and a sporty skid plate to maintain the SUV character. On the sides, the Ioniq 5 is designed with sharp but distinctive creases on the door panels, turbine pattern dual ton alloy wheels, blacked B pillar, and a few shiny bits to highlight the side body cladding.

The rear section is quite sporty too with an integrated roof spoiler and shark fin antenna. Going by the design of the international model, the tail end features angular bits on the boot lid with LED taillamps connected by a black glass slab for a modern outlook. The skid plate gives a rugged and upright stance to the Ioniq 5. The sides feature the typical flush-fitting door handles that are becoming increasingly popular in budget cars. All in all, the design language of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 represents elegant modern design combined with an understated appearance.

Interior

While Hyundai has not revealed the interior of the India-bound model, the international model has an attractive and spacious cabin continuing the minimalist design. There is a large connected screen for infotainment and instrument cluster, a dashboard with a uniform pattern across the width neatly hiding the actual AC vents, a compact centre console with HVAC and multimedia controls, a large space between the front seats due to the absence of a gearbox panel, and a ton of modern convenience and connectivity features.
