Maruti Jimny Spotted Testing

Maruti Jimny Spotted Testing

Maruti is planning to introduce the much-awaited and wildly popular Jimny in our market soon and the SUV is seen testing multiple times already.

Continuing its product onslaught, Maruti is testing the upcoming and much-awaited Jimny SUV which was spotted wearing a heavily camouflaged guise. It is no surprise that people have been excited about Jimny in our market for the longest time. Its regular appearance at the Auto Expo and the need in our market for an affordable 4×4 off-roader make for a perfect product. The grand success of Mahindra Thar must’ve further cemented Maruti’s conviction in this product. By the looks of it, the SUV doesn’t seem to be too far away from the launch.

Camouflaged Maruti Jimny Spotted

This video clip has been shared by Ronendra Sapam. The black wrap around the SUV is not able to hide the Jimny enough to be unrecognisable. On the contrary, the boxy silhouette, the stylish alloy wheels, and the length of the SUV, all point toward the fact that this has to be the upcoming 5-door version of the Jimny. We have seen Jimny in the international markets for a long time. The exterior of this 5-door variant doesn’t seem all that different from the regular Jimny sold in the markets abroad.

However, for the Indian market, the more practical 5-door version makes the most sense. This is because Indian car buyers always look for the most practical option. The 5-door version offers better interior space, and a larger boot compared to the 3-door version. Hence, people will be able to use the Jimny for everyday use, as well as for weekend trips to off-roading locations. In fact, Mahindra is also preparing the 5-door version of the Thar for the exact same reason.

Specs

In terms of specifications, the 5-door Jimny would also make use of the 1.5-litre hybrid petrol engine from Maruti that outputs 103 hp and 137 Nm of peak power and torque. It would be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. But the main strength of the Jimny would lie in its 4ร—4 drivetrain and hardware. This would put it in a slightly higher price bracket than the Brezza compact SUV but at par with the rivals in Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. However, we need to wait for the official announcement regarding the specifications of the SUV.
