An Uber user received a bill of a jaw-dropping Rs 32 lakh for a 10-minute ride. Yes, you heard that right! In this world of technology, platforms like Uber have changed urban public mobility for good. Uber, for the uninitiated, is a cab aggregator that has one of the largest customer base and cab operators and is present in many parts of the world. Originally founded in the USA, its international expansion is a story in itself. Here are the details of this bizarre incident.

Man Gets A Bill of Rs 32 Lakh by Uber

As per the reports, a man in the UK named Olvier booked an Uber to meet with his friends in a town called Tameside. It was a regular evening where the ride took around 10 minutes and the bill was expected to be around ยฃ10 – ยฃ11. After reaching the destination, Olvier went about his usual business. After getting up the next morning, he was shocked out of his wits by Uber trying to deduct ยฃ35,000 (around Rs 32 lakh when converted to INR) from his account.

In reality, the Uber driver put the destination as Tameside in Australia by mistake. Since the names of the towns are identical, he didn’t bother to cross-check. The Uber app calculated the distance of 10,000 miles from the UK to Australia which is clearly a glitch and generated a bill of ยฃ35,000. Surprisingly, the system tried to take this amount from the account too. However, the transaction was declined due to insufficient funds in the account of the rider.

Finally, everything was sorted out and the final bill came out to be ยฃ10.73. But the rider confesses that there could have been a huge issue had the amount been deducted from his account. The refund would’ve caused him unnecessary worry. This shows that while technology is much advanced over the years, there could still be hilarious and incredible errors.
