mahindra xuv700 australian expert review

Mahindra has launched the XUV700 in Australia and all the reviews we’ve seen so are very positive

An Australian car expert reviews the Mahindra XUV700 that has been launched with an asking price of $36,990 for the base AX7 trim and $39,990 for the top AX7L trim. These are drive-away prices making it the most affordable 7-seat mid-size SUV in Australia. The XUV700 is the successor to the XUV500 that was on sale in the country as well. Also, it has done an impressive job in its home market, India, ever since its launch. Now, the Indian auto giant aims to replicate that success Down Under as well. Here is what the reviewers have to say about the new SUV.

Australian Expert Reviews Mahindra XUV700

This video comes from CarsGuide on YouTube. The reviewer appreciates the new-ness the XUV700 offers in terms of design. He specifically likes the full-LED headlamp setup, sporty bumper, chrome slats on the grille accentuating the road presence, stylish alloy wheels, chrome frames around the windows, striking LED taillamps and more. This revolutionary upgrade continues on the inside as well with the latest features like ADAS, dual touchscreen infotainment and driver’s instrument displays, steering-mounted controls, powered driver’s seat with memory function, soft-touch materials, electronic parking brake, wireless charging and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Blind Spot Monitoring, 360-degree Camera, 7 airbags and more.

Driving Impressions

Mahindra XUV700 features a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine for Australia. It makes 149.2 kW (200 PS) and 380 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The motor works in tandem with a 6-speed automatic transmission powering all four wheels in top trim. It comes with a 7-year / 150,000 km factory warranty and a 7-year RSA. The ground clearance is 196 mm and fuel consumption is a decent 8.3 l / 100 km. Driving the SUV was a surprising experience for the reviewer who was taken aback by the refinement of the engine and the peppy engine. The driving mannerisms of the SUV are quite solid but he felt that the steering is on a lighter side which is great for city use but not so much for high-speed highway rides.

What We Think

Internationally, Mahindra has long been known as a company that sells agricultural equipment and vehicles alone. However, with the XUV700 and the new Scorpio, the brand is becoming a prominent passenger carmakerr. It has already achieved great success on its home turf with these two SUVs and it will be interesting to see if it is able to replicate the same in Australia. Its value-for-money proposition is quite compelling and we shall have to wait a bit to see how the buyers react to it.
