Mahindra Thar NCAP Safety Rating

Let’s kick off by taking a look at the Mahindra Thar’s safety rating through the lens of Global NCAP’s rigorous tests. For a firsthand look at its safety performance, check out this YouTube video showcasing the Thar’s Global NCAP crash test. It offers a real-time view of how the Thar performs during these crucial evaluations.

Mahindra Thar Adult Occupant Protection Rating

The Adult Occupant Protection Rating is a vital measure of how effectively a car safeguards its adult occupants during a collision. On a scale of 17 points, the Mahindra Thar earned a commendable 12.52 points, signifying good performance. Notably, the Thar excelled in protecting the head and neck of both the driver and the passenger. While chest protection for the driver was rated as “okay,” it earned a “good” rating for the front passenger.

In terms of knee protection, the Thar performed admirably for the front passenger seated next to the driver. However, there’s a note of concern regarding the driver’s knees. The assessment revealed a potential risk wherein the driver’s knees might come into contact with “dangerous structures behind the dashboard” in the event of an accident, potentially resulting in injuries. While the Mahindra Thar achieves a 4-star adult occupant protection rating, indicating decent occupant safety, there is room for improvement. In the unfortunate event of a collision, the car’s safety features may not provide complete protection to the occupants.

Mahindra Thar Child Occupant Protection Rating

When it comes to protecting its youngest passengers, the Mahindra Thar delivers commendable results. It secured a four-star rating for child occupant protection, scoring 41.11 out of 49 pointsโ€” the highest among all tested cars. In comparison, the Mahindra XUV300, despite achieving a full five-star rating, scored lower with 37.44 points for child protection.

The testing process involved the use of child dummies of different ages, including 1.5-year-olds and 3-year-olds. The forward-facing child seat with ISOFIX and top tether for the 3-year-old displayed limitations in preventing excessive head movement, resulting in poor head and chest protection. In contrast, the child seat for the 1.5-year-old provided excellent protection for the head and chest during impact. The Mahindra Thar comes equipped with standard three-point seat belts for all passengers and ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, contributing to its impressive four-star child occupant protection rating.

Assessing how well the car can protect vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, the Motorcyclist Safety Test is a crucial aspect of safety evaluation. The Mahindra Thar achieved a score of 41.11%, considered a good result. Notable areas of success include the front bumper’s protection for the legs of motorcyclists and the pelvis’s protection from the front and rear edges of the bonnet. Additionally, the A-pillar demonstrated adequate protection for the motorcyclist’s head, while the mirrors provided good chest protection. However, concerns arose regarding the windscreen and roof areas, which did not provide adequate protection for the headโ€” an area warranting further attention.
