New 2014 Hero Xtreme

Hero MotoCorp has launched the new Hero Xtreme 150cc motorcycle in India. Basically a cosmetic refresh the bike features a new front fascia, new tank design, new seat (which is a single piece, unlike the split one on the older bike), new body panels, new tail-lamp and a new instrument cluster. It also gets some new features.

With the new bike, Hero aims to keep customers interested in the brand as it tries to fend off competition from Bajaj, Honda, Suzuki (who will be launching the new Gixxer), etc. The new Xtreme is pining its hopes on the fact that it will be an affordable, mostly good-looking, sporty-but-economical bike in the segment to attract customers towards it.

Hero Xtreme w Front and Rear Disc Brake : Rs. 69,530

What’s New?

New 2014 Hero Xtreme

As we mentioned before, the new Hero Xtreme is mostly a cosmetic upgrade exercise. The bike gets a new headlamp unit with what Hero calls ‘Highbrow’ position lights, it might look cool at night but the overall unit looks a bit out-of-proportion in some angles. The front mud-gaurd is the same design as before but get dual-tone paint now. The alloy-wheel design on the front and rear remain the same. The indicators are not integrate onto the front fairing as before, the mirror covers are dual-toned now. The tank design is new, and so are the body panels and so is the grab rail design. You get new gas-charged shock absorbs at the rear. The tail-lamp is no longer a single unit, the stop-lamp is a mish-mash of LED lights. The new Xtreme also gets a new inner mud-guard.

New features on the bike include an all-new analogue-digital instrument cluster that is easier on the eyes than before and a new underseat mobile charging socket. Mechanically the only change is the fatter (by 10-mm) rear tyre. The Xtreme is still propelled by the same air-cooled single cylinder 150cc engine with an out put of 14 BHP @8500 RPm and 12.80 Nm @ 6500 RPM attached to a 5-speed gearbox sending power to the rear wheels via chain. Braking is provided by a 240mm disc at front and a 130mm drum at the rear, you can also choose a 220mm disc for the rear for better stopping ability.
