The current generation Honda CR-V, which was launched in the not so distant past in India -Feburary 2013- is set to undergo a makeover. For the first time a test mule in full camouflage was caught on camera being tested in Canada this week. This validates our belief that the 2016 Honda CR-Vย can be seen on the streets by the end of 2015 or early 2016 with slightly tweaked exteriors and brushed up interiors. In India Honda sells about a 100 units of CR-V a month, but globally it has sales figures which are far more encouraging. As usually is the case with a facelift expect a slight bump in the Rs. 20-25 Lakh Price tag that it presently commands.

Updated on 27th June

The interior of the upcoming Honda CR-V has been spied. The car gets mild updates both outside and inside and the spy shots show the changes made inside. The only changes that spies could spot was the metal inserts in the A/C vents. Check out the changes in the spy shot below:

What To Expect:

As seen from the spy pictures, the updated CR-Vโ€™s will see styling changes such as a new twin port front grille with honeycomb mesh background and prominent twin slats, possibly finished in chrome. The headlamps are redesigned to go along with the new grille while the re-profiled bumper houses new fog lamps and a more prominent air-dam.

At the rear end, expect re-profiled tail-lamps and bumper. A badge-carrying chrome insert is expected to find its place just below the windshield. The interior would also undergo minor upgrades though nothing conclusive can be drawn from this set of pictures.

Mechanically, the powertrain is expected to be untouched. The Indian CR-V models are available with 2.0- and 2.4-litre petrol engines. The 2.0-litre unit produces 156 PS and 190 Nm of torque while the 2.4-litre motor has 190 PS and 226 Nm of torque in store. The former is available with a 6-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic transmission and the latter comes only with the 5-speed automatic. With Fuel Efficiency being around the 7.5 Kmpl mark.

The top-end 2.4-litre variant is equipped with 0n-demand all-wheel-drive system.

Honda CR-V was one of the original Compact SUV’s that we had in our country and we are a little surprised by the lack of ย success that it has seen in the ongoing SUV and Compact SUV craze that our country is undergoing. Maybe it’s the price tag which separates it from the pack of the Dusters and Ecosports and Terranos, but for that price it packs a tremendous set of features and give you a sense on luxury inside the the former compact SUV’s lack. A little touch up here and there teamed up with some innovative, aggressive marketing might be the key to bring the new Honda CR-V to the fore.
