Kia has launched the Syros in a niche market segment between the Seltos and Sonet
Recently, I told you about 6 USPs of Kia Syros, which I discovered during a week of using this compact SUV. Now, let me talk about a few not-so-impressive things about the Kia Syros. The Syros is a unique model placed between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia’s India range. This is interesting, given that the Sonet and Seltos already have overlapping prices. Yet, Kia has found a way to fit another vehicle into this segment. It is offering world-class design and amenities to entice new customers. For now, let us glance at the top 3 cons of the compact SUV.
Top 3 Cons of Kia Syros
- Mileage – The fist aspect that could put a few customers off is the mileage in the turbo petrol mill. As per my ownership experience of a week, I believe the owners will be able to squeeze out around 15 km/l combined mileage with the turbo petrol engine. While that is not low per say, people who are fuel efficiency-conscious will definitely need to look for the diesel trim.
- Design – I feel design of the Kia Syros is a double-edged sword. Inspired by the global Kia design philosophy, it is evidently polarizing. People who like it, really love it, but those who don’t, just hate it. There is no in-between when it comes to the appearance of the Syros. I, for one, really appreciate the distinct styling of the Syros. But then again, design is subjective.
- Price of Higher Trims – Finally, many people might consider the top variants of the Kia Syros to be a bit expensive. This becomes especially challenging when they get the option of going for a mid-trim Seltos, which is a much larger SUV. Kia has packed the Syros with the latest tech and amenities to the brim. As a result, the higher range has become quite expensive. Hence, people will need to think thoroughly before making a purchase decision.
The Kia Syros is on offer with two mills – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel mill, which outputs 120 PS / 172 Nm and 116 PS / 250 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. Performing the transmission duties is a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic with the petrol, and a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission with the diesel. At present, the prices range from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 17.80 lakh, ex-showroom.
