Maruti Suzuki Baleno Scores 2 Stars at Latin NCAP

The premium hatchback has posted a rather disappointing performance at the Latin NCAP

The made-in-India Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been tested at the Latin NCAP and it was able to bring home just 2 stars. Interestingly, it bagged a decent 4 stars at the Bharat NCAP. We know that Maruti Suzuki exports numerous models from India to many international markets around the globe. In India, the Baleno is the most successful product in its space. Its familiar engine and transmission options, the latest tech and convenience amenities and decent looks are some of the main reasons for its massive success. However, in the safety aspect, the recent reports can be quite concerning for some buyers. Let us glance at the details here.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Scores 2 Stars at Latin NCAP

The official Latin NCAP report confirms that the Maruti Suzuki Baleno bagged 31.75 points out of 35 (79%) in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 32.08 points out of 49 (65%) in the Child Occupant Protection (COP), 23.17 points (48%) in Pedestrian Protection and 25 points (58%) in Safety Assist Systems category. The standard safety equipment list includes 6 airbags, seat belt pretensioner, seat belt loadlimiter, ISOFIX child seat mounts, seat belt reminder, ESC and GTR 9 – UN 127 Pedestrian Protection. All these contributed to a disappointing 2-star safety rating.

Digging a bit deeper, in the AOP section, it bagged 12.65 points out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier test, 2.84 points out of 3 in Wiplash Rear Impact, 7.89 points out of 8 in Side Movable Deformable Barrier test and 7.37 points out of 8 in Side Pole Impact test. In the COP category, the hatchback scored 23.72 points out of 24 in Dynamic Score, 4.36 points out of 12 in CRS Installation Score and 4 points out of 13 in Vehicle Assessment Score departments.

Apart from that, in the Pedestrian Protection section, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno secured 16.39 points out of 24 in the Head Impact, 0.78 points out of 6 in Upper Leg Impact (pelvis) and 6 points out of 6 in Lower Leg Impact (leg) section. Finally, the Safety Assist Systems category includes points for ESC, ADAC Moose Test, Moose Test (Consumer Testing), AEB Interurban, seat belt reminder, etc.
