Aprilia RS 150

Aprilia RS 150 has been spotted at a dealer’s meet in Goa, after its stint at the Auto Expo 2018. We expect the baby Aprilia to launch this year in India.

At the 2018 Auto Expo, Aprilia unveiled the India-spec RS 150 and Tuono 150. Both are performance aimed motorcycles. While RS 150 is a fully faired sportsbike, Tuono is a semi-faired one.

During a recent dealer’s meet in Goa, a undisguised Aprilia RS 150 was spotted. It looks like the bike is production ready and we could be expecting a launch soon. Tuono 150 will follow RS 150 soon enough.

Aprilia RS 150 looks quite similar to the international-spec RS 125. Globally, RS 150 and Tuono 150 are not available. Both are specially made for the Indian market.

The bike gets a full-fairing body with some changes in the bodywork and the decals. The India-spec RS 150 gets bigger fuel tank, revised fairing, larger pillion seat and revised footpeg positions, when compared to RS 125.

Aprilia RS 150 gets a 150cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine that puts out 18 BHP at 10,000 RPM and 14 BHP at 7,500 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

For suspension, we expect it to be the first 150cc bike to offer USD Forks (Yamaha R15 V3 does not) in the front and a mono shock absorber at the back.

Aprilia RS 150 will be equipped with a 300mm front disc and a 210mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS as standard fitment.

As you see, the spotted bike is in a production ready avatar. In the Chinese market, Aprilia sells an identical 150cc fully-faired bike in partnership with Zongshen, a local company. It gets the GPR decal on the body, which comes in the India-spec too.

The bike might be possibly bought in India through the CKD route. In that case, the prices might go a bit higher than expected. Otherwise, it could be locally produced at Aprilia’s Ahmednagar factory.

We expect Aprilia to price RS 150 around Rs 1.5 Lakhs. No need to tell who it will compete with. Yamaha R15 V3, its ideal rival, is priced at Rs 1.41 Lakhs. So, you can expect a similar prices.
