Tata Altroz platform could spawn multiple cars in the future

The Tata Altroz is based on the all-new ALPHA architecture which has the flexibility to support multiple powertrains a number of body styles.

Tata Motors is going to unveil its all-new premium hatchback, the Altroz at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The Altroz is based on the 45X concept which made its debut during the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo last year. It is the first product to be based on the automaker’s all-new Alpha architecture and the second one to sport its all-new IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy after the Harrier.

Going in the future, Tata Motors plans to limit its entire portfolio to just two platforms. The ALPHA will underpin all its cars measuring up to 4-meters in length. While the OMEGA will be used for cars measuring above 4-meters in lengtt. Ahead of the official unveiling of the Altroz, Tata Motors has been teasing details regarding the same across its social media platforms.

In one such teaser video, the homegrown automaker elaborates on the various possibilities the Altroz’s platform i.e. the ALPHA architecture offers. The highly flexible nature of this platform will help the automaker introduce a wide array of body styles on the same. In addition to the Altroz, this underpinnings will be used for the next-gen iterations of the Tiago, Tigor and the Nexon. Upcoming products like the Hornbill (codename) Micro-SUV and the Creta rivalling Blackbird (codename), are also going to use this very platform.

The video shows that there could be an MPV based on the same platform as well. Something which might come across as a contendor from Tata Motors to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Mahindra Marazzo.

Not only does the Tata Altroz’s platform support multiple body styles, but it is also capable to support multiple powertrain options. For instance, in addition to Tata’s 1.2-litre Revotron and the 1.05-litre Revotorq unit, the ALPHA is compatible for hybrid as well as full-electric powertrain options. In fact, alongside the Altroz, Tata Motors has also lined up the unveiling of the 45X based all-electric hatchback concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

The event will also see the homegrown automaker unveil the highly anticipated H7X, the Harrier based seven-seater SUV and the concept for the Hornbill Micro-SUV.
