The Tata Altroz twins are based on the automaker’s Alpha architecture. The conventional powered Altroz is expected to launch in India by mid-2019.

Tata Motors has today finally raised the curtains off its all-new premium hatchback Altroz. The car was unveiled at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show, marking the 21st consecutive year of the brand at the famous European Auto Show. The Altroz is based on the 45X concept which made its first public debut at the 2018 Auto Expo and subsequently at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. It is underpinned by the automaker’s Alpha architecture and stands as the first car to be based on this platform.

The Altroz is the second product from Tata Motors to be based on its IMPACT 2.0 design language, the first one being the Harrier. Up-front, it comes with a large implementation of the automaker’s Humanity line grille, large headlamps, accentuated bumper housing the sharply designed air dam and the fog-lamps with integrated LED daytime running lamps.

The side profile of the car features strong character lines, swelled wheel arches and a top-mounted door handle for the rear doors. The rear fascia of the Tata Altroz comes with a roof-mounted rear spoiler which is somewhat similar to what we see on the Tata Tiago. It gets a slopping window and dual-tone colour scheme for the boot-lid. The tail-lamps are rather large. The one on the show car is blacked out and are likely to be revealed close to its Indian unveiling.

The cabin of the Tata Altroz comes across as a breath of fresh air. For the first time, we see a unique design for the steering wheel on a Tata car. The steering is multi-functional set-up. The overall design looks trendy. That said, you can clearly see that several bits have been carried forward from the Nexon like the central console with its floating infotainment system, the hood for the instrument cluster and the controls for the air-con.

There seems to be enough storage space inside the cabin. There is a central armrest on offer at the front. The instrument cluster gets a part digital part analogue configuration like the one seen on the Harrier. Tata Motors is likely to alter a few things before the Altroz goes on sale in the Indian market.

The engine specifications of the Tata Altroz are still under the wraps. It is likely to come with both petrol as well as diesel engine derivatives at the time of its launch. The petrol engine is likely to be a 1.2-litre unit borrowed from the Tiago. While the diesel engine could either be the 1.05-litre unit from the Tiago or the 1.5-litre unit from the Nexon. Manual, as well as automatic transmission options, are likely to be on offer.

Upon its launch in the Indian market, the Tata Altroz is going to compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz. As a result of this, the Altroz is likely to fall in-between the price range of INR 5 lakh to INR 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
