2019 Honda Civic petrol derivative accounts for 85% of demand; bookings reach 1600 mark!

The 2019 Honda Civic was launched in India this month. It’s prices fall in-between the range of INR 17.70 lakh to INR 21 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2019 Honda Civic, the 10th generation iteration of this D-Segment sedan made its official debut in India this month. Despite launching in a segment which is effectively drawing to a close, the new Civic has managed to garner 1,600 bookings so far. This figure, as claimed by Honda, is more than the 3-month cumulative sales of the entire segment combined. For reference, currently, the offerings in the D-Segment of sedans include the likes of Toyota Corolla, Skoda Octavia and the Hyundai Elantra.

Out of the total demand of the 2019 Honda Civic, close to 85% is for the petrol derivative. With this current generation, Honda has launched this sedan with petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 1.8-litre unit. This engine is good for 140 BHP of power along with 175 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine is a 1.6-litre unit. This engine is good for 120 BHP of power along with 300 Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine is paired to a CVT automatic gearbox as standard. While the diesel engine comes with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard.

Honda says that there has been a lot of interest from a variety of customers. People who are the owners of the previous generation Civic and are currently looking for an upgrade are amongst them.

The 2019 Honda Civic packs in a host of features and creature comforts. Top-spec variants are offered with a lane-watch camera, an electric sunroof, leather upholstery, 6-airbags, dual-zone automatic climate control, remove vehicle start (petrol only) to name a few.

With three launches this fiscal, Honda is now to concentrate upgrading its current portfolio to match the upcoming BS-VI emission regulations. The next big model launch from the Japanese automaker is going to be the one of the next-generation Honda City. This will be followed by the debut of a compact SUV, based on the same platform as that of the Honda Amaze.
