Maruti S-Cross will soon get the new 1.5 Litre petrol engine with the mild-hybrid system. Currently, it is available only with a diesel engine.

As our regular readers know, Maruti is going to discontinue diesel cars post-April 2020. It currently has a 1.3 Litre and 1.5 Litre diesel engine, which will be completely stopped.

Maruti S-Cross and Vitara Brezza are available only with diesel engines. So, soon, both will be getting new petrol engines onboard. The new unit that debuted on Ciaz will be used.

The 1.5 Litre petrol unit is in-house developed and comes with the Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid technology. It currently comes on the updated Ertiga and Ciaz.

The engine produces 105 BHP and 138 Nm of peak torque, while mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. There are reports suggesting that the 4-speed torque converter unit will also be available.

The current engine produces 90 BHP and 220 NM of torque, with a 5-speed MT as standard. Earlier, it was also available with a bigger 1.6 Litre diesel unit.

As of now, there are no reports whether the new 1.5 Litre diesel unit will also be available. There are chances that the new diesel engine might make a comeback sometime later, but as of now, it will be discontinued by April 2020.

The same scenario is happening with the Vitara Brezza, which is likely to get new petrol and diesel engines by Diwali 2019. The engine mapping might be different for all the models.

Maruti S-Cross competes with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur. The petrol variant might further strengthen the sales of the model, which is one of the least-selling in the lineup.
