Hyundai is all set to launch its first electric vehicle, Kona EV, in India. This will be the first electric SUV in the country and the second-in-line fully electric vehicle after the Mahindra e2O plus. The Korean manufacturer will launch the vehicle on 9th July 2019.

Exteriors
Like the one seen in the global market, the same design conventional pattern will be followed. The SUV gets split headlight design, an enclosed grille which will support car charging, 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and plastic cladding on the sides as well as the wheel arches which gives a rugged look to the car.

Also, there will be a restyled front bumper and rear bumper will see the deletion of exhaust tips.
Interiors & Features
Hyundai Kona EV is expected to see an all-black theme with interiors that feel upmarket. It gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which uses both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car is likely to come with console-based wireless charging making it first in the segment. The system also allows alerting the driver once there phone is fully charged or if he/she is exiting the car without taking their phone.
The car will also feature real-time traffic, adaptive cruise control, heated and ventilated seats, satellite navigation, live service and much more. For a better sound experience, the eSUV also gets an 8-speaker KRELL audio system with a subwoofer.
Powertrain
Globally there are two battery packs that are available with the Hyundai Kona EV. The larger 64kWh battery which produces 201 bhp. It gets a driving range of about 470 km and takes about nine hours to juice up the battery.

We can expect the less powerful 39 kWh electric motor which delivers a limited power of 133 bhp to make its way in India. The total driving limit for the same remains at 280 km. A healthy torque of 395 Nm is constant in both the motors.
Hyundai Kona EV will also come with a 100kW DC fast charger that will juice up the battery to about 80% in just 54 minutes.
Prices and Competition
Being brought into the Indian market through completely knocked down (CKD) route, Hyundai plans to keep the prices to be minimal. An expected price of Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) can be observed once the Kona EV gets launched.
As of Hyundai Kona EV sees no competition but down the line with the trend of electric cars getting popular, we sure can expect other manufacturers bringing in the cars. Also, Hyundai has announced an initial of 1000 units will be allotted for the Indian market. The numbers will be up gradually if the demand increases.
Safety Features
A total of Six-Airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill-Start Assist, Blind-Spot Detection, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, Real-Time Traffic Alert are some of the safety features the EV will get.
Other safety features like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist which uses a front-facing camera to detect a collision and automatically engages brakes can also come with the electric SUV.
MG Motors is also looking to fill up their space in electric vehicles by launching the eZS SUV in the coming months. However, the pricing will fall within Rs 10 lakh to 12 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
