Maruti WagonR And Swift BS-6 have now been introduced in India. Basically, the 1.2 Litre K12B engine has been updated and the prices have also been hiked.

After Baleno and Alto, Maruti Suzuki has updated the WagonR and Swift with BS-6 engines. The same 1.2 Litre K12B VVT engine has been updated for the compliance norms, which are going to kick in from April 2020.

The engine specifications are unknown as of now, but a slight upgrade in the power figures is expected. The fuel economy of all the cars will also improve with the BS-6 engines.

The Maruti WagonR BS-6 is now priced starting from Rs 5.10 Lakhs to Rs 5.91 Lakhs. The prices have been hiked by Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000, depending on the variants. The 1.0 Litre engine has not been updated for the emission norms.

For the Swift, the prices of petrol and diesel variant have been hike. However, only the petrol engine is BS-6 compliant. The prices now start from Rs 5.14 Lakhs to Rs 8.89 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

Different variants have received different price hikes. The petrol variants are dearer by Rs 15,000-20,000. The diesel variants get costlier by mere Rs 5,000.

Similarly, the prices of Maruti WagonR with 1.0 Litre engine have been hiked. It now starts at Rs 4.34 Lakhs to Rs 5.33 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The base LXi is costlier by Rs 15,000 and the top-spec VXi AGS demands Rs 10,000 more.

That’s not the end. Maruti has also launched the CNG Variants of the new BS-6 Alto. The setup will be the same with CNG offered on LXi and LXi (O) trims. They are priced at Rs 4.10 Lakhs and Rs 4.14 Lakhs, respectively.

The diesel engines will not be BS-6 compliant, especially the ones on Baleno, Swift and Dzire. The smaller 1.3 Litre DDiS diesel engine will be discontinued. There are chances that the new 1.5 Litre diesel unit might make a comeback later next year.

So, technically, Maruti will sell only petrol cars for some time post the BS-6 norms. With that, Hyundai and Tata are going to encash on the opportunity, as both will continue with diesel engines.
