We compare the spec and design of the recently launched Maruti Suzuki XL6 with the Mahindra Marazzo. Let’s see how each car performs on paper.

Maruti Suzuki recently launched the new XL6 at a starting price of Rs. 9.79 lakh ex-showroom. The XL6 shares its underpinnings with the Ertiga and is positioned as a more premium offering than the Ertiga. It would be also sold through the Nexa dealerships. In our market, the XL6 competes with the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo, the Renault Lodgy and the Honda BR-V as well.

Here we take a closer look at how the new Maruti Suzuki XL6 vs Mahindra Marazzo fares on paper.

In terms of engine options available, both cars come with only one engine option. Where the Maruti only provides a petrol engine to the XL6, Mahindra Marazzo comes with the usual 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. Maruti manages to pull out 105 bhp and the Marazzo oil burner produces 121 bhp.

However, the Marazzo, having a diesel engine, obviously has significantly more torque than the petrol engine in the XL6. Being offered with a petrol engine only, the XL6 is more fuel-efficient even with the automatic trim. Transmission option includes a 5-speed manual gearbox and a four-speed torque converter for the Maruti XL6 while a 6-speed manual gearbox does duty on the Marazzo.

In terms of dimensions, Mahindra Marazzo beats the XL6 in every way. The Marazzo is 140 mm longer, 91 mm wider, 4mm higher and the wheelbase is extended by 20 mm. However, the end result will totally depend on sales and how much each MPV has to offer.

Design
Maruti XL6 looks completely refreshed and an updated version of the Ertiga. The upright nose and the flatter hood makes its presence more than the Marazzo. The MPV gets body cladding all over the body and the grille has been redesigned which features two chrome strips. The headlamp cluster has also been redesigned and it gets silver skid plates on the front and rear bumper along with the roof rails.

In comparison, the Mahindra Marazzo looks bland and outdated in design. Of course, the front fascia inspired by the shark looks evident. It also gets LED projector headlamps and the rear profile offers LED Taillights with the impressive arrow design.
