Maruti Suzuki Sales Report Depicts 34.4% Decline in Domestic Sales for August!

Like all other manufacturers, Maruti Suzuki too have recorded a drop in sales by a massive 32.7% across both domestic and export vehicles segments for August.

Another month has gone down and carmakers continue to report about declining year-on-year sales. The slowdown in gravely affecting the automobile industry and Maruti Suzuki continues to be one of the worst affected brands. Maruti Suzuki sales report for August records a year-on-year decline by 34.4% in domestic sales, selling only 97,061 units as opposed to 147,700 units sold in August 2018.

The segment that was most hit was the hatchback segment. The company’s cumulative sales including domestic and export sales stood at 106,413 units, recording a drop of 32.7% over 158,189 units sold in August last year.

Maruti Suzuki sold 10,123 units in August in the A-Mini segment which includes the Alto and the older generation Wagon R, witnessing a decline of 71% over 35,895 units sold during the same period in 2018. In the A-Compact segment which includes the new Wagon R, Ignis, Swift, Celerio, Dzire, Baleno and the likes, Maruti recorded a sale of 54,274 units, dropping by 23.9% over 71,364 units sold in August 2018.

The B-utility vehicles segment including the Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, Ertiga and the new XL6, however did see some respite as Maruti sold 18,522 units in August 2019, a growth of 3.1% over 17,971 units sold in August 2018. The vans segment consisting of the Omni and the Eeco saw a decline of 36.6% with 8,658 units sold, as opposed to 13,663 units sold during the same month last year.

Maruti Suzuki’s exports in August saw a 10.8% decline with 9,352 units shipped, as against 10,489 units in August last year. Meanwhile, 2,333 units of the Baleno were shipped to Toyota that are rebadged as the Glanza. The government recently announced a number of measures to revive sales in the Auto Industry. The festive season will also be arriving very soon and customer buying sentiments are also expected to pick up gradually. Some OEMs are requesting the government to grant a temporary reduction in GST rates as well. Finally having taken some measures, we can expect the Auto Industry to start showing results in the coming months.
