Helicopter Taxi in Bengaluru gets over 100 bookings for Day 1 of operations.

It looks like Bengaluru is spearheading the air taxi race out of necessity more than anything else.

The Bengaluru helicopter service has received over 100 bookings for the first day of operation i.e., October 10. ‘Necessity is the Mother of Invention’, they say. Bengaluru is infamous for being the city with arguably the craziest traffic in the country. Remaining stuck for a couple of hours in traffic every day is a routine everyone has painfully accepted there. However, technology has offered a solution, albeit a rather expensive one. But it compensates for that by saving substantial time for the commute.

Bengaluru Helicopter Service Open Bookings

We had previously reported that the air taxi service is slated to commence from October 10 onwards. This flight will operate between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Currently, the time taken by road to cover this distance is 2 hours. However, the helicopter ride will complete this journey in just 12 mins. The area around the HAL is home to numerous IT companies. Hence, it is a prominent route for working professionals. In order to save time, this could be a great alternative.

The fare for this journey is decided to be Rs 3,250 which might seem like a lot. But the time it saves justifies this rather hefty price tag. Also, one could use it for emergencies and not necessarily every day. According to some reports, the first 100 bookings for the first 15 days have already been received. For the first day itself, 8 people are booked to travel – 4 for the ride between HAL and KIA and 4 for the reverse flight.

It looks like this service is bound to find regular users since there will always be someone who would require this facility. The first bookings look promising and we shall wait to see how well this service is received by the public in the long run. What are your thoughts on this unique service and do you think this will become the norm in times to come?
