Jawa has finally revealed the specs of the BS6 compliant motor in the Jawa and the Forty Two. Like most other BS6 updates, the Jawa motorcycles too see a drop in performance but its still plenty more than RE Classic 350.
Earlier this year, Jawa launched the BS6 compliant versions of the Jawa and the Forty Two but the company did not reveal the technical specs of their new 293cc single-cylinder BS6 compliant motor. No however, Jawa has finally announced the output figures from the BS6 engine and like most other BS6 updates, this engine also sees a drop in performance. The company claims that the BS4 Jawas already had a BS6-ready motor and by the use of cross port technology, it has been able to meet BS6 emission norms as well as retain the signature Jawa exhaust sound.
The BS6 compliant 293cc engine now puts out 26.51PS and 27.05Nm, both for the Jawa and the Forty Two. The numbers have seen a drop of just 0.86PS and 0.95Nm. These Jawa motorcycles however remain significantly more powerful than what is their primary rival – the Royal Enfield Classic – 350 which makes only 19.3PS of power. The Jawa motor packs in a punch of more than 7PS which is a considerable difference.
With the BS6 update, and like many other motorcycles too, the Jawas have become inevitably heavier. Both the Jawa and the Forty Two now tip the scales at 172kg which is 2kg heavier than the BS4-spec motorcycle. In comparison, the Classic 350 weighs a lot heavier at 195kg, which is 23kg heavier than the Jawas. So in terms of power-to-weight ratio too, the Jawa motorcycles are way ahead of the Royal Enfield Classic 350.
