Skoda has opened bookings for the BS6 Rapid with a new 1.0L TSI turbo-petrol engine. The Rapid loses its current engines to be offered only with this new engine.
Skoda has opened bookings for the new BS6-compliant Rapid 1.0 TSI. The booking amount for Skoda’s midsize sedan has been pegged at rs 50,000. The Skoda Rapid with the new 1.0L TSI engine will be launched early next month, with deliveries to begin from April 14, 2020.
Skoda and Volkswagen are going to get a major change in their engine options. The 1.0 Litre MPI, 1.6 Litre petrol and the 1.2 Litre turbo petrol will be discontinued soon. That’s beside the diesel engines which will also go down the dump.
Skoda howcased the Rapid Matte Concept at the Auto Expo 2020, which gets the new turbo petrol motor. Skoda is going to launch the showcased concept sometime this year, but the engine will come on the standard sedan first.
The 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine produces 110hp and 175Nm of torque. In fact, its the same engine that is offered on the newly launched Volkswagen Polo and Vento. Just like the Vento, the engine will come mated to either a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic gearbox.
Commenting on the occasion, Zac Hollis, director, sales, service and marketing, Skoda Auto India said,“ The state-of-the-art 1.0 TSI petrol engine, to be introduced with the Škoda Rapid, is central to our BS6 powertrain and fuel strategy – offering an exceptional power output as well as excellent fuel economy.”
Skoda Rapid Matte Concept further gets some cosmetic upgrades like Matte Grey paint job, red inserts on ORVMs, door panels, boot lip and spoiler and gloss black alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, there’s an all-black interior theme and no other change.
In the international markets, Rapid is getting a generation update with new engines, major cosmetic tweaks and a revised platform. However, in India, the new version would not come in the near future, but there might be a facelift incoming.
