Citroen C3 is the most affordable offering from the Indian subsidiary of the renowned French carmaker. It’s based on the Common Modular Platform and comes with 1.2-litre petrol engine options. Recently, the Brazilian version of the micro SUV went through Latin NCAP crash tests. Shockingly, the car has scored zero stars in this safety test. The reasons for the concerning results are an unstable structure, minimal side head protection, and lack of seat belt reminders. It also offers weak protection in frontal impact. Let’s take a closer look.

Latin NCAP is the New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean region. As per its second publication for 2023, the Citroen C3, produced in Brazil, was rated zero stars. The tests included frontal impact test, side impact test, whiplash effect, pedestrian protection, and ESC. Safety features on Citroen C3 include two airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). As per the tests, it offers 30.52% protection for Adult Occupants and 12,10% protection for a Child Occupant. The car offers 49.74% protection for Pedestrians and Vulnerable Road Users. It also scored only 34.88% on the Safety Assist test. As the car does not come with side head protection, a pole impact test was not performed.

What Do 0 Star Ratings In Latin NCAP Crash Tests Mean for Citroen C3?
As per the test reults, the Citreon offers weak protection to the driver’s chest. It only offers marginal to the passenger’s chest area as well. The car also performed poorly in terms of whiplash protection for the adult neck. While the Pelvis protection is good, the leg protection is only found to be marginal. While the knees showed good to marginal for passengers, it offers marginal protection for the driver. In the side impact test, it offers adequate protection to the head and chest. However, the abdomen and pelvis were well protected. It also offers adequate protection to the upper leg and lower leg.
The Latin NCAP Crash Test also rated the structure and the footwell area of Citroen C3 as unstable. While the car offers full protection to child occupants, it lost points due to poor marking of ISOFIX anchorages for Child Restraint Systems (CRS). The Airbag warning marking for the passenger seat also did not meet Latin NCAP requirements. Additionally, pedestrian protection subsystems showed adequate protection for the head. However, it provides poor protection and weak protection in areas closer to the windscreen edge and A-pillar.

Here are some other shortcomings of the new car:
- CRSs failed in the installation assessment.
- UN 127 or GTR 9 pedestrian protection regulations not met.
- Latin NCAP requirements not met by Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) in the front seat.
- SBR is not available for the passenger side and on the back.
- Airbag disconnection is not possible in the passenger seat position.
