The Datsun Redi Go, launched in June 2016, has finally got a 1000cc version. The Redi Go 1000cc will rival the Maruti Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon. However, the biggest rival to the upcoming 1.0-litre Redi Go is its own French cousin, the Renault Kwid 1.0. With the Datsun Redi Go 1000ccc launch a few days away, the Kwid 1.0 might have enough reason to worry about. The two cars will share the same platform, engine and specifications, but there is still a lot that sets them apart. The Renault Kwid was launched here in mid-2015 and has been performing really well on the sales charts since. Even the 1000cc model, which came in last year, has garnered a very positive response. The Kwid’s selling point is its SUV-inspired design that lends it a rugged look. This makes Kwid an attractive proposition for SUV-hungry car buying lot of India. However, with the launch of the Redi Go, we saw some prospective buyers of the Kwid heading to its Japanese cousin instead. The 1000cc Redi Go might further dent the sales performance of the Kwid. Both the cars are even matched here. Prices of the entry-level variants of both the cars start at ₹ 3.57 Lakh. The top-end Redi Go 1000cc costs ₹ 3.72 Lakh as against  ₹ 4.2 Lakh for the Kwid 1.0. However, the top-end Kwid 1.0 gets an AMT variant.

Both cars are powered by the same 1000 cc motor that was first introduced on the Kwid 1.0. Therefore, power and torque figures are identical, but the mileage figures are different and favour the Kwid 1.0. Transmission duties are being handled by the a 5-speed Manual unit on Redi Go 1000cc while the Kwid 1.0 gets an additional 5-speed AMT option too.

The claimed mileage figures of both these cars is not identical. A significant difference in real world mileage is a result of the Kwid getting an AMT transmission while the redi Go has a 5-speed manual. Also, factors such as kerb weight, gearing and driving style will result in a difference in real world fuel efficiency numbers.

As evident from the table above, the Datsun redi-GO is marginally shorter and narrower than the Kwid. However, it is taller and sits higher thanks to its class-leading ground clearance of 185 mm. Both care ride on 13 inch wheels.

While the base variants of both these cars lack many essential features in order to keep the cost in check, the 1.0-litre models will be available in top trims only. These will have all the basics like power steering, AC, sun visors, and some more. They are even likely to boast of a touchscreen infotainment system that supports navigation. The higher end variants of the Redi Go 1.0-litre model should get- AC, audio system, 2-speakers and power steering. However, there is no touchscreen infotainment unit on offer on redi Go 1000cc.

Datsun Redi GO 1000cc vs Renault Kwid 1.0 Review – Exterior & Interior Design

While the Kwid gets mini-Duster looks, the  Redi Go looks a lot different. Make no mistake, for both the cars have crossover-like appearances. However, while the Kwid gets a slightly rugged edge to its design, the Redi Go is sleeker and sharper.

The Kwid gets a decent-looking dashboard and a very sporty instrument console. Space on offer is decent and it suffices for a small family of four adults. The Redi Go, however, is slightly disappointing in this aspect. Its interior, unlike the exterior, is really plain-jane. The dashboard design stands out but the redi-GO misses out on a covered glove compartment and a fancy speedo console. You do get a lot of space which is comparable to what the Kwid offers. It is easily more spacious than the likes of Maruti Alto 800. Even the boot is a lot more spacious than the Alto’s pint-sized boot. Usage of light shades for the cabin makes the interior feel even roomier.

It will be very interesting to see how the launch of the Redi GO 1000cc affects the sales of the Kwid 1.0. Although both these cars share the same CMF-A platform, they are very different in terms of looks and probably driving characteristics. Pricing will play a key role, as always.   • Design – The Kwid and Redi Go follow different approaches. However, compared to the Redi-GO the design of the Kwid looks a little conservative.
  • Features – Top end variants of the Redi-GO are decently equipped. Kwid gets optional touchscreen infotainment system and alloys.
  • Specifications – Both cars share the 1.0-litre Petrol unit that made its debut on the Kwid. Power and Torque figures are identical and but mileage is where Kwid 1.0 has the edge.
  • Price -Both the cars are evenly matched here.

  1. I had a very bad experience on purchase of KWID from renault delhi west
    i booked the car in oct 15. delivery of the car was long delayed
    i wrote many e mails to renault to expedite the delivery but got no response
    finally i was told that car will be delivered by 02 apr but renault failed in its promise
    the car was delivered on 10 apr 16. i was called to reach by 10 at show roon and promised delivery by 12 noon but it was delayed for long and delivery was given in the late hrs of evening thus spoiling my whole day. at the time of delivery car was very dirty. despite many request it was not properly cleaned. it had some scratch marks on the body which were shown to the dealer rep.
    the car had already run for 25 KMS at the time of delivery. it appears that car was not new and run by renault/ dealer before delivery. else how mileage meter show 25 kms. it sud be zero. kindly take back the already run/ second hand car and deliver me new one. the car has many technical issues during running. like noise in clutch, poor pick up, a/c not effective at the occupancy of 5 persons. poor braking, some sound during ignition, high consumption of petrol
    the registration plate has not been delivered till date despite many request and registration certificate also not recd till date although i have been charged for these services. writing e mails to renault is of no use as no response is given. kindly look into the matter and replace the used and defective car at the earliest

    This is about the 25 km logged at the time of delivery.You should understand that the dealer has to present the car to the RTO for getting registration formalities done which certainly involves some running.

  3. Kwid is a great car. Its AC is perfect.Datsun has a perfect AC. It is also a good car in this segment.Kwid and Datsun’s Redi go has perfect power steering.All things in these car are better than डब्बा cars like Alto 800 and Eon era

    some problems in them but if u r looking at the price u can ignore those things.
    And if u r looking at the styling they are way far better then the cars present in this segment.

  6. I am from Goa and I have done test drive of the Datsun Redi Go and the Renault Kwid. Both are 799 cc and they look different. However, the Kwid in terms of looks and inernal finishing looks far superior. In contrast, the Redi Go is incomplete inside as there are metal is not covered internally. The KWIDs finish is far superior. The Redi Go music system is a joke – even the top end one is junk. Both cars wheels are 3 nuts only reminds me immediately of the nano. I think Redi Go would do well if it looked to complete the car in all respects before putting it out on sale. It looks tacky inside.
    I think the RXL Kwid would be suitable for the price instead of the Redi Go which in Goa is priced same as the KWID. But both cars again are noisy and one will find some vibrations at a lower rpm.
    Overall, I still think more work needs to be done on both the cars to get safety on the crash tests that both failed miserably. Also, recently a customer of a KWID reported his car burnt out due to faulty wiring when the car was stopped for the night. The car needs to be perfect safety wise or else it might not survive the onslaught of the new varients coming through in the new few months from different companies vying for the the micro segment.

This is a good comparison and as expected the Kwid comes out as a winner. this is a great segment for car makers as more customers want to buy entry level hatchbacks than luxury sedans or SUVs. the key will be pricing but people will spend a little more if they get good looks and superior interior quality with more space which Kwid offers. Redi Go is a good effort but due to less pricing it lacks a lot of things like even in top trims you dont have option for touch nav, the car has a not as wide wheel base as Kwid, the maintenance conditions mentioned are absolutely ridiculous as it describes every Indian road condition so the 32% less cost for maintenance claim is not valid. Are we supposed to fly the redi go? These are cars made on the same CMF-A platform but Kwid manages to have an edge since it offers more features, comfort and looks.

  8. I got delivery of my kwid in January 25 from Delhi west and not yet got insurance letter, I called up there around
    100 time they tel we will mail u.but stil I didn’t got..if anybody is here from there and have little bit shame left than send insurance letter soon

  9. 3 nuts wheel R very ridiculous, someone said one nut also works in f1 cars but ” deko uska size” if collecting together it’d more than 20 nuts of redigo. So instead of making nanos line redigo should have either 4 nuts or 3 nuts in bigger size for better safety of cars. For addition or provision of 1 Xtra nut customer ‘d had been to pay rs.100/- extra.

Hi am planning buy a car either REDI GO or Kwid out of my budget .Please suggest which is the better option to choose .I am looking into mileage ,maintenance and performance as well from the dealers heard the maintenance for REDIGO would be 3000₹ approx for 1 year and 10000 kms where as kwids maintenance goes around 3000-4000₹ for 3000 kms or 6 months.. Please let me which is true..

Both cars are good in pricing and performance in this section, Kwid is better in SUV like design while Redi go is bit congested, leg room in Kwid is very good even boot space is more than Redi go,for noise and vibration both cars at the same level but at this price these are the best option than Alto,Hyundai Eon, in one sentence Kwid is the best.

  14. low budget car Renault kwid & datsun redi go but i think you will by a redi go redi go tallest car & kwid is not tall most important of price redi go price is 3.50 lakhs on road top model but redi go minus point is do not offer touch screen system & suv look more spacious most important of navigation system . & kwid price is on road amt top model 4.50 lakhs so more different 1 lakhs rs. different
