Mahindra & Mahindra, after a long wait, has finally launched the Mahindra XUV500 world SUV. To everybody’s surprise the car turned out to be a brilliant piece of work both in terms of design on the exterior and interior and features. An even more striking thing is the pricing, which has been kept very aggressively as there is enough competition prevailing in this segment and the brand wants to establish itself in this very space.
Some of the closest competitors of the car are Toyota Innova and Tata Aria as their pricing is the closest. Although the Innova belongs to a different segment we would still like to make a comparison of it with the XUV500 as one must know the difference between the two so that he or she can make a perfect decision keeping in the mind the budget and the features you get.
Mahindra XUV500 Exteriors Vs Toyota Innova Exteriors
Mahindra has done a wonderful job and the XUV is a stunner. With its inspiration coming from a cheetah, every inch of the XUV’s body is in resemblance with the curves of the animal. The instinct is clearly visible and the level of aggression is really high. The innovative front grille, bold headlamps, flared wheel arches, stylish rear and front fenders, are some of the things that your eyes won’t miss. But on a closer look it seems that quality of plastics used in the front fender, below the headlamps, isn’t good enough and is very much prone to scratches. The fit and finish of the car is quite nice and it shows how far Mahindra has come. One of the most highlighting portion of the car’s body is the curve that is situated above the rear wheel arch which gives a meaning to the design of the car and adds a lot of masculinity.
Talking about the Innova, it has been very consistent over the years as it comes from the quality conscious automaker Toyota. The overall finish of the car is worth appreciation. The looks are very elegant and there is no element of aggression at all. The chrome grille, simple design, large headlamps distinguish it from the others.

Toyota Innova Dimensions

The XUV is at par in overall length but is significantly wider than the Innova, leaving more space on the inside to sit comfortably. Height of the XUV is also better than the Innova but the wheelbase of the latter is better which means it offers a little more legroom for the passengers.

Mahindra has done a wonderful job on the inside and the first look will leave you spell bound. Although the quality of plastics might not amaze you but overall its fine. The waterfall design central console is beautiful and the silver finish provided on some of the sections of the car make it look quite sporty. The leather upholstery is also good. Talking about the features of this car, the list seems to be endless as Mahindra has provided countless features which you don’t see in any of the on going cars in its segment. Laptop storage compartment in the glove box, conversation mirror and sunglass holder, voice command activated control, a 6 inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation and iPod connectivity, 6 airbags, steering mounted buttons for audio control and Cruise Control. ABS with EBD, ESP with rollover mitigation, Hill Hold and Hill Descent control, foldable 2nd and 3rd row seats are some of the features of this car.

The Innova has a really elegant feel to it and the two tone dashboard looks quite nice. The fit and finish of the plastics is also brilliant. Steering mounted audio and multi information display switches. Automatic climate control, ceiling mounted AC vents, door ajar warning, seat belt warning, sunvisor, reclining seats, quality fabric seats, tilt steering, parking sensors, ABS, 2 airbags at the front, immobilizer etc. are some of the features that are offered with the Innova.
If you consider both the cars and the features and plastic quality on the inside, the XUV has better features but has inferior plastics than the Innova. The Innova does feel better in terms of plastic quality and also the fit. Space is another attribute of the Innova as even after getting seven people at the same time in the car, there is ample legroom for all. The XUV is good for 5 persons but for the two passengers in the third row there is less leg space and one will feel cramped.

Toyota Innova 2.5 EV is the base diesel models and offers the least possible features and hence there is no need to put it into the competition.
