The EcoSport compact SUV has been a very successful model for Ford India. It was largely responsible for kickstarting the compact SUV segmentย in our market. But with the advent of new products like the Maruti Vitara Brezza, sales have taken a hit. Ford took the wraps off the 2017 Ford EcoSportย last year. It features updates to the exteriors and interiors. The new model is finally in India with a starting price of ย Rs 7.31 lakh. Ford EcoSport Old vs New Model- Exterior Comparison
Designers have made major modifications to the nose of the car. The facelift features a new single piece grille, new headlamps and a new bumper. Foglamp enclosures are new as well. The Headlamps new get projector units and LED daytime running lamps. Overall, the new look is more in line with Ford’s current design language. When viewed from the side, there is not much that sets the old and new models apart. The only change here will be a new alloy wheel design.
At the back, the changes are negligible.ย The US-spec 2017 Ford EcoSport drops the tail gate mounted spare wheel with the number plate moving up to take its position. However, for the Indian market, that is not the case. Therefore, the upcoming new model EcoSport will feature the same rear as the current model. However, there will a new wheel cover and dual tone rear bumper.

Ford EcoSport Old vs New Model- Interior Comparison
The cabin of the new EcoSport features major updates. Apart from the door handles, and the AC vents on each end of the dashboard, everything else seems new. There is a new centre console with a centrally mounted floating touchscreen. The vents for the air conditioning and the auto aircon controls are also new. On the front passenger side, the dashboard now features a grab handle. Other new bits include a new multifunction steering wheelย and a new instrument cluster. In terms of space and seating capacity, the cabin of the new EcoSport is the same as the old model.

Ford EcoSport Old vs New Model- Specifications
Ford has carried over the earlier model’s Diesel engine lineup to the new model. The new EcoSport will gets a new three-cylinder 1.5 L petrol engine with both automatic and manual transmission options. The 1.0 L EcoBoost has not been retained. Diesel variants of the EcoSport continue to draw power from the 1.5 L TDCi diesel. Currently, the diesel EcoSport does not get an automatic transmission option.

Since the engine and transmission options remain the same, the mileage figures of the Diesel engine are identical. The new 1.5 petrol engine, however, offers a higher mileage.

Ford EcoSportย Old vs New Model Comparison Verdict
We’re not sure when Ford will bring the facelift to India. Our guess is that the 2017 Ford EcoSport India launch will take place in the second half of 2017. The upcoming model features a new nose and much better interiors. The facelift should help attract more buyers.
- Design – The new model looks sportier.ย The dashboard is all new and looks much better now.
- Features – There will be a handful of new additions to the features list including a new touchscreen AVN.
- Specifications – We’re not expecting Ford to make any major modifications to the engine lineup. However, Ford could add an optional automatic gearbox to the EcoBoost variants.
- Price –ย Thanks to addition of new features and a new petrol engine along with fresh styling, the Ecosport becomes better value for money.
