Tata Safari

Beating the lockdown blues? Here are some classic vintage TV ads of the Tata Safari that we, 90’s kids, grew up wating all the time.

Tata Safari is every 90’s kid’s dream and first crush. The manly SUV was launched back in 1998 and soon started making many appearances in movies. Big time celebrities started flaunting it soon. Till the next 10-12 years, Safari enjoyed a lot of attention.

In 2005, the second generation of Safari was introduced in 2005 and finally, it received its last and biggest facelift in 2012. The SUV was slowly put out of action in 2019 itself, before Tata discontinued it officially due to safety regulations and BS6 norms.

When Safari was ruling the rooster, those were the times people enjoyed watching TV ads. They were actually said to draw the attention of buyers. Here is a compilation of all the Tata Safari ads that have come up till 2009 and we have enjoyed watching.

This video compilation of the old ads of Tata Safari includes all the versions sold till 2009. There’s the first generation Safari and also inside, is the first ad to come up on air. Then there are ads of Safari Petrol, Safari Dicor and a couple of off-roading ads.

The first Safari was launched at a price of Rs 7.98 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Towards the end of its lifecycle, it was priced towards Rs 14 Lakhs. Ask the owners and they will not at all regret buying a 15 Lakhs old and outdated SUV.

Then there was the Safari Petrol available for a short time too. The engine was a 2.1 Litre four-cylinder unit delivering 135 BHP. It was very powerful at that time and a fun car to drive or race. However, it offered very poor fuel efficiency, some owners reporting a figure of 4-5 kmpl. Then it was discontinued in 2005 due to very few takers.

The last engine to come on Safari was the 2.2 Litre four-cylinder turbo diesel, which produced 156 BHP and 400 Nm of peak torque. Now, the SUV is only available for the army that too, on special order basis.
