Honda has launched the Elevate mid-size SUV in India with a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh, ex-showroom. It is a mid-size SUV that aims to challenge the leadership position of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. That is quite an arduous task considering the immense popularity of these two SUVs. The Bharat NCAP program will commence on October 1, 2023. It will be India’s indigenous project to assess new cars’ safety capabilities. The testing will be based on the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 197 which will award a single rating score combining the Adult Occupation and Child Occupation Protection scores. The other tests include a Front Offset test at 64 km/h with 40% overlap, a Side Impact test at 50 km/h and a Pole-Side Impact test at 29 km/h. To receive a full 5-star safety rating, the car must score a minimum of 27 points in Adult Protection and 41 points in Child Protection categories.
Honda City-Like Adult Protection Rating?
The Elevate shares aplenty with the City, including its underpinnings. This simply means that the SUV could have a similar performance at the crash test. The latest-gen City has been tested by ASEAN NCAP, where it has had a pretty good show. It has achieved an impressive 4-star rating for its ability to safeguard adults during accidents. This rating underscores the vehicle’s capacity to offer substantial protection to both the driver and front passenger in the unfortunate event of a collision. The City’s underlying structure has been praised for its sturdiness, and the airbags and seatbelts have demonstrated their effectiveness in minimizing injuries.
Concerning adult occupant protection, the Honda City has secured a commendable score of 12.14 out of 17. This score takes into account various crucial factors, assessing the strength of the vehicle’s structural framework, the efficacy of airbags and seatbelts, and their ability to protect the head, neck, chest, and legs from potential harm.

What We Think
The new SUV shares the same platform as the City sedan. In 2020, the City received a full 5-star safety rating at the ASEAN NCAP. Even the Indian version scored a respectable 4 star rating in GNCAP. Now, there are a lot of similarities between the two testing agencies and procedures. Hence, it is entirely possible that the Honda Elevate safety rating could be similar to City. For all we know, it might even bag a full 5-star score!
