The Honda HR-V, the Japanese automaker’s compact SUV, currently on sale in several international markets is likely to make its debut in India soon.
Honda Car India, except for the crossover WR-V and the 7-seater BR-V, does not have any other contender in the compact SUV segment which, as we all know, is currently selling like hot-cakes.
Honda has given no clear indication about the launch of the HR-V on Indian soil but has hinted that it is indeed considering to launch this vehicle in the near future.
So, what does the launch of this new compact SUV from Honda mean for an already cramped segment? Will it be able to give a tough contention to the likes of the current segment leader Hyundai Creta?
We try to explore these and all the other question-related in this detailed article.
Honda HR-V India Launch Date
Honda is expected to launch a slew of new models in the next 18 months or so. The HRV could be launched sometimes in the middle of the next calendar year.
It will become the fourth crossover/SUV offering from the Japanese car maker in India after the WR-V, BR-V and CR-V.
Honda HR-V Price in India
|Honda HR-V Base Model||Rs. 12 lakh|
|Honda HR-V Top Model||Rs. 16 lakh|
The upcoming SUV from Honda will slot in above the BR-V and the Hyundai Creta. While the official price list will be made public on the Honda HRV India launch date, it will definitely cost a bit more than BR-V.
Expect prices to start around the Rs 14 lakh mark. Although similar in size to the Creta, it will be marketed as a more premium offering.
Honda HR-V Engine Specifications
|Engine||1.5 L Petrol||1.5 L Diesel|
|Power||130 PS||100 PS|
|Torque||155 Nm||200 Nm|
|Transmission||6-speed Manual/CVT||6-speed Manual|
|Estimated Mileage||17-19 KMPL||20-22 KMPL|
In all probability, the HR-V will get the same engines like the Honda City. In the UK, the HR-V gets a 1.5 L petrol and a 1.6 L Diesel.
However, for India, the Diesel engine is likely to be the 1.5 L unit that powers every Honda diesel car in India. Keeping the slightly higher price of the Honda HR-V in mind, Honda might consider launching the HRV small SUV with a 1.8 L petrol engine that will also power the upcoming Honda Civic.This engine makes about 135 BHP and 170 Nm.

Honda HR-V India Review- Exterior Design
The Honda HR-V or Vezel made its debut in 2013 at the Tokyo Motor Show. It is based on the 2013 Honda Urban SUV concept. It features sleek headlamps with projector units and LED daytime running lamps.
The thick slab housing the Honda logo gets a chrome strip running through the middle. For the Indian market, the entire slab could come finished in chrome. The side profile is characterised by body cladding for the wheels arches and a sloping roofline.
Much like the Chevrolet Beat, the rear door handle is mounted high right next to the rear window. At the back, there are split tail lamps that could feature LED detailing. While the overall design is smart, the tail lights do look a tad oversized. While it is not big in terms of appearance, it will be more expensive than the similarly sized Hyundai Creta.
Honda HR-V India Review- Interior Design
The HRV’s interior features typical Honda elements. The steering wheel is quite similar to Honda products currently on sale in India. So is the instrument cluster and the touch-sensitive auto aircon setup. Expect the HR-V to feature Honda’s 7-inch Digipad infotainment system currently available on the WR-V and City.
The passenger side of the dashboard gets a unique three vent setup. Unlike the BR-V, the HR-V will only feature seating for 5 occupants. The HR-V boasts 393 litres of boot space.
Honda HR-V India- Competition
The Honda HRV is going to fall into the compact SUV segment in India. With a price range of INR 14 lakh to 18 lakh, it will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500 and the Hyundai Tucson.
