Honda Urban EV was showcased at 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Now, for the first time in global markets, the EV has been spotted testing. The launch is scheduled for next year, while the India debut will happen by 2023.
Last year at the 2017 Frankfurt Motorshow, Honda shocked everyone with its small Honda Urban EV in its concept avatar. The EV has been built on an all-new electric platform, which will be further developed and used for future electric vehicles.
A year after its showcase as a concept, spy pics of Honda Urban EV have come up while testing in Germany. For the first time, the EV has been spotted testing. Based on the photos, it is evident that the test mule looks very similar to the concept model.
It retains the original shape and design of the concept. However, instead of a two-door form, the test mule has been spotted with four doors. It also gets multi-spoke alloy wheels instead of the one showcased on the concept.
We can also see that Honda Urban EV gets cameras instead of wing-mirrors. So, technically, the cameras act a Rear View mirrors and displays visuals on a screen besides the door handles inside the cabin.
At the front, the EV maintains the round headlamps and faux air vent from the concept. At the rear, it uses round taillights replacing the square one on the concept.
An unclear photo of the cabin of Honda Urban EV shows a huge floating touchscreen at the centre. As per reports, the EV is likely to get 4 screens inside the cabin.
As of now, the specifications and launch date are not revealed. However, we expect the EV to offer a riding range of more than 200 kms on full charge. It might be offered with a fast charger as standard fitment.
Honda plans to launch Urban EV first in the global markets. Reports say that the global launch might happen by the end of 2019. The use of EVs in Europe and North American countries are usually high.
Following which, it will also launch in the Indian markets too. However, till it comes here, it will be very late. Estimated launch period is by 2023.
Currently, the Indian government is working for setup of large electric charging stations across the country. It will help people to charge their vehicles on-the-go.
