First Maruti Jimny CNG

First Maruti Jimny CNG

This has to be the first Maruti Jimny with a CNG kit. The trend of CNG vehicles is on the rise these days. People are frustrated with the astronomical fuel prices. Hence, they are looking for alternatives. In pursuit of that, CNG appears to be a compelling proposition, especially in large cities where the infrastructure is already present. The running costs associated with CNG powertrains are significantly lower than petrol cars. Hence, people head to the aftermarket to retrofit CNG kits. Let us take a look at the details here.

This post comes from Easy Drive CNG on YouTube. It captures the CNG kit installation process on the Jimny. The owner of the car shop details the entire procedure in this video. The mechanics neatly position the pipes, components, CNG cylinder and filling valve on the Jimny. The main components include new injectors, a single-stage reducer, an ECM with COBD2, a gas filter, a map sensor, etc. It took the mechanics close to 7 hours to fit the entire CNG configuration. After the installation of the CNG cylinder, there is little space for luggage. But the performance of the vehicle is still decent.

Specs

We are not certain about the power and torque output figures of the Jimny in this CNG guise. But we know that there will be a slight decrease in the output in comparison to the regular petrol version. The latter is a 1.5-litre petrol unit good for 103 hp and 134 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine pairs with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There is Suzuki’s distinctive ALLGRIP PRO 4×4 drivetrain enabling brilliant off-roading performance. The prices range between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 15.05 lakh, ex-showroom.

Author’s Note

Getting CNG in the aftermarket has gained massive popularity in recent times. However, we must advise our readers to always head to professional car houses. Installing a CNG kit might be an easy process, but if done incorrectly, it can cause issues. What is great is that big carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors are already offering CNG variants of some of their products. It is clear that people love the low-running cost options available at their disposal.
