The new internet car technology that comes in the Land Rover has helped the UK police in solving a mysterious murder case.

Since 2019, we have seen many new budget cars that have come up with internet car technology and advanced telematics. The premium cars already came with some internet telematics and finally, we have heard something really good happen from it.

In Anglesey, United Kingdom, a senior citizen was killed with a crossbow in the wee hours. He was apparently on the roof to fix his satellite dish and the murderer fired the crossbow that went straight through his abdomen and arm.

When the news was reported, the police found no clue, no evidence and any leads to the murder. The murder went viral and UK Prime Minister Theresa May appealed anyone to come ahead with any leads or information about this murder.

When enquiring with crossbow dealers in the vicinity, they listed out around 15-20 suspects. Later when things began to work out, the police settled down on one sports therapist, who had purchased the suspected murder weapon.

However, the therapist declined and said that he recently sold it to a stranger. While the suspect was being question, the police found that his wife’s Land Rover Discovery was burned down. This led to even more suspicion on the family.

That’s when the internet car technology of Land Rover Discovery came into use. So, all the telematics like when was the car used last, where did it go and how much is the last drive running, is available on the mobile phone through the registered application.

Also, all this information is sent to the manufacturer through the BlackBox. So, while the car was burned, the telematics and other information had already reached the office of Jaguar Land Rover. That’s when things started to unfold, swiftly.

Over the time, the location of the car was found on the night of the murder. It was barely away from the victim’s place. Also, the telematics recorded the period for which the doors and boot were shut and open. All this further made sense and helped the police is solving this murder case.

Even in India, there are a couple of cases where advanced telematics has helped prevent theft of a car. Cars like Hyundai Venue, Kia Seltos, etc. come with geo-fencing, mobile alerts, remote engine start-stop, remote lock-unlock and much more. Many might consider the internet car technology as a waste but it is actually a very good mechanism for the safety and well being of your car.
