Skoda Kamiq

Skoda Kamiq has been spied testing on Indian roads completely uncamouflaged. Does it mean an earlier arrival for the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos Rival?

Skoda recently launched the Karoq in India which is priced at Rs 25 Lakhs. It is a mid-size SUV and since is a CBU, it is priced very costly. The upcoming model from Skoda is Kamiq which has been recently spied testing in Pune. The SUV will be smaller and cheaper than Karoq but still a CBU model.

Skoda is going to launch the Kamiq sometime in 2020, probably in the third quarter. The exact sequence is Vision SUV, Kamiq, Karoq and the Kodiaq. The latest version of it is already out in the global markets and we will be getting the same global-spec version. Even the engine will remain the same.

Based on the platform of Volkswagen T-Roc or the MQB A0 platform, it will not be that small than the T-Roc. Under the hood, it will get the same 1.5 Litre four-cylinder turbo petrol TSI engine. The engine will produce 150 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 7-speed DCT. The top speed will be the same as found on T-Roc but Kamiq will be more fuel-efficient.

Globally, Kamiq gets 1.0 Litre TSI engine in two states of tuning, a 1.5 Litre TSI and a 1.6 Litre diesel engine. The base variants get the 1.0 TSI producing 94 BHP, whereas the higher end variants with the same unit produce 115 PS. The top-end variants additionally get the same 1.5 TSI unit. Lastly, all variants get an optional 1.6 Litre diesel engine.

Skoda-Kamiq

Skoda Kamiq will be about 4.2 metres long and will go against the likes of Kia Seltos and new Hyundai Creta. Since, it is a CBU, the dimensions and styling will be the same. Features onboard will include LED headlamps, electric sunroof, active cockpit system, bigger touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, automatic wipers, dual-zone climate control and much more.

We are expecting the Kamiq to come in a single fully loaded variant which will demand something between Rs 15 Lakhs to Rs 18 Lakhs. The Vision SUV is likely to be another rival for the Creta and Seltos with prices starting off at Rs 10 Lakhs up to Rs 15 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom).
