With over 5 million units sold so far, the Maruti Alto has established a sales record that might never be broken by any other vehicle in the Indian car market

Maruti Alto Flies Past 50 lakh Sales Milestone
Yes, only the Maruti Alto has surpassed the monumental 5 million sales figure. First launched in 2000, the Alto has been through a generation change and numerous updates. The entry-level hatchback has sold a whopping 5.06 million units. Now, this is something that might stay unparalleled for many years to come. The second-most-popular brand here is the Hyundai i10, with 3.3 million sales. In fact, for many years, the Alto was the top-seller in India. Its dominance spawned almost two decades.
While the Maruti Alto went on sale in 2000, its popularity grew only after the discontinuation of the 800. The popularity got another boost with the launch of the 1.0-litre engine variant, Alto K10. At the moment, though, only the K10 continues to be on sale. The F8D-equipped 0.8-litre version was pulled down the shelve with the advent of the BS6.2 norms.

The Maruti Alto K10 features a 1.0-litre K10C petrol engine. The three-potter delivers 67PS of power and 89Nm of torque. It comes with a choice of a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT. Additionally, there’s a CNG variant with 57PS of power and 82Nm of torque. It comes with a 5-speed MT. Available from Rs 3.99 lakh to Rs 5.96 lakh (ex-showroom), the Maruti Alto K10 competes with models like the Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki S-Presso in the market.
