The Kia Sonet will be one of the first cars in its segment to come with a factory-fitted CNG kit. So far only entry-level models (Alto, WagonR, Santro, etc) were offered with the CNG option. In the newly surfaced images, the Kia Sonet CNG can be seen with a CNG sticker and a CNG intake valve (next to the petrol filling cap). The GT and T-GDi badges hint that the upcoming car will be powered by the 1.0 liter 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine that offers 118 bhp power and 172 Nm torque via a DCT gearbox. The Kia Sonet CNG is expected to cost Rs 70-90k more than the corresponding petrol variants.
The Kia Sonet has been competing with the Hyundai Venue for a while. It shares the underpinnings and engines, and transmissions with Venue. We can totally expect a Hyundai Venue CNG model as well. Several reports claim that Kiaโs sister company is working on a Venue facelift. It might be launched alongside the CNG Venue. Overall, this new trend is bound to catch on as the fuel prices keep going high. Many sub 4m/ sub-compact SUVs are expected to come in CNG versions. This is good news for customers as they will get better choices with better fuel options.
