Kia India has just announced the crossing of 1 lakh sales milestone for Kia Sonet since its launch on September 18. With more than a lakh units sold in a little less than a year, rough calculations show the carmaker has averaged the sale of at least 1 unit of the sub-compact SUV ever since it was made available in India on September 18 last year. The Sonet rivals the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue and has even become the fourth highest-selling SUV in the country. So far, the Kia Sonet has contributed to 32% of its carmaker’s overall sales.
While the Kia Sonet has been available for just about a year, it has already received an update that has brought in as many as ten new enhancements to the product. The engine and transmission options, however, have remained the same. The sub-compact-SUV is available in three engine variants – 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel and 1.0-litre turbo petrol. These offer 82 hp, 115 hp, 120 hp and 115 Nm, 240 Nm and 172 Nm, respectively. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, iMT, DCT and a 6-speed automatic.
The features highlights include a large-size digital Infotainment Touchscreen with wireless smartphone replication for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with Voice Recognition, USB and Bluetooth connectivity for seamless pairing of smartphones to use the driving and multimedia apps. Also, there are various driving modes that help one tune the car’s performance according to the conditions. These include Normal, Eco and Sports modes. There’s also a 7-inch TFT Digital Instrument Cluster. Then there is the Auditorium 3D Sound system with 8 speakers, Ambient Lighting, Hands-free smart access card, Automatic Climate Control, Air Filter and much more. On the safety front, the Kiger comes equipped with dual-front airbags as well as two side airbags, Radar Sensors and Reverse Parking Camera, front seats get seat belt reminder alert, and ABS with EBD.
Speaking on the milestone, Mr. Tae-Jin Park, Executive Director and Chief Sales & Business Strategy Officer, Kia India said, “The Sonet was launched when the auto industry was facing its worst slump in history with the advent of COVID-19 pandemic. The market was battling rock-bottom customer sentiment amidst manufacturing and supply chain setbacks. We introduced the Sonet in September last year against all odds, and it would not be an understatement to say that it has rewritten Kia’s success story in India and has made a stronghold in the segment with its industry-leading features and specifications. The one fourth contribution of iMT variant in total sales testifies that the model has also revolutionised the adaption of new technologies. The PV segment has been witnessing multiple transformations over the years, and as a leading automaker, we are committed to the changing trends and offering new-age driving experience to our customers across segments.”
