Mahindra U321 MPV to Get A 1.5-Litre Petrol Engine- Report

Mahindra and Mahindra is working on developing a total of 4 new petrol engines. These engines will range from 0.6-liters to 2.0-litre. The Mahindra U321 MPV will get a 1.5-litre petrol engine.

The Mahindra U321 MPV is likely to launch in India sometime during fiscal 2018-19. It is going to be a very important product for Mahindra as this MPV will compete with several major players in the market. Mahindra is working extensively to make this all-new MPV a very strong product in terms of its design, features and capabilities. Also, part of this framework is providing the car with a set of potent engines. To make the U321 a more diverse product, Mahindra will introduce both petrol and diesel derivatives in this vehicle.

The Mahindra U321 MPV is going to get a new 1.5-litre petrol engine. This engine is currently under development in-house at Mahindra. It is likely to produce a power output of 163 BHP. Torque figures will range from 200-220 Nm. The homegrownย automaker will provide a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.

Mahindra already has a vast portfolio of diesel engines which have proven themselves over the course of time. The U321 MPV is going to get a 1.6-litre oil-burner. Expect this engine to produce a power output of 120 BHP along with 305 Nm of peak torque. This motor will also get a 6-speed manual transmission.

As mentioned before, Mahindra is working extensively to make the U321 a potent product. Hence, we expect the MPV to quite feature rich and premium in nature. The exterior profile of this vehicle will have classic Mahindra styling. In addition to this, it will also get surplus chrome elements to make the car look premium. While the cabin is also going to feature a number of up-market elements. The MPV will compete against the likes of the Tata Hexa and the Innova Crysta. Hence, it will have a number of creature comforts and features. Expect the prices to fall in the range of INR 12 lakh to 16 Lakh.

Coming to Mahindra, apart from the new 1.5-litre petrol engine, the automaker is also developing three other gasoline motors as well. Include the abovementioned, these four engines will range from a 0.6-litre capacity to 2.0-liters.

Elaborating on this furthermore, the 0.6-litre engine will produce around 27 BHP. Above this, will sit a 1.2-litre petrol engine. This motor will have a three-cylinder layout. It is going to have both turbocharged as well as naturally aspirated versions. Power output is likely to be around 135 BHP. It will find its place in Mahindra’s upcoming S102 and S106 SUVs.

In addition to this, the automaker will also make the 1.5-litre engine that we mentioned before. Apart from the U321 MPV, this engine will also find its place in the upcoming U350 as well. This engine will also have both turbocharged as well as naturally aspirated versions. Furthermore, there is also a 2.0-litre engine. This motor will produce close to 217 BHP of power. It will find its place in larger SUVs, like the upcoming Mahindra Rexton.
