Maruti Alto 800 Diesel Launch in July, 2018

It is believed that Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) is readying a sub-Celerio diesel car for our car market. This diesel-powered small car is the highly anticipated new Maruti Suzuki Alto Diesel. The new car is being expected to be launched later this year. The Alto Diesel will be powered by the same engine that is found under hood of the Celerio. This 800cc Diesel engine was earlier expected to make its debut on the Suzuki Carry LCV. However, it marked its entry with the Celerio Diesel and will now power the Alto small car. Maruti Alto 800 Diesel Launch Date

As we just said, the Maruti Alto 800 Diesel launch could happen in June-July period of next year. Once launched, the Alto Diesel will become the cheapest Diesel-sipping car in India. Currently, the least priced Diesel car in India is the Tata Tiago. However, the Alto Diesel could go on sale for a starting price of INR 3.5 lakhs. At this price point, the Alto D will be significantly cheaper than the Tiago. Hence, there are high chances that the Alto 800 D will have many takers.

Maruti Alto 800 Diesel Price in India

Our guess is that the new Maruti Alto 800 Diesel will be priced around INR 3.5 Lakhs for the entry level model. The Alto Diesel will offer great mileage and hence lower running costs than the Petrol variant. It could also come with a couple of additional features over the current Alto. At a price of INR 3.5 Lakhs, the Alto would become the cheapest Diesel car in the country.

Such an aggressive price tag will be possible only due to extensive parts sharing with the Petrol Alto. Even the engine will be shared with another Maruti car, the Celerio Diesel. Currently, the Celerio Diesel is the most economical small car in Maruti’s product portfolio. The Celerio Diesel has a mileage of 27.62 KMPL and the Alto’s mileage is expected to surpass this figure. The Alto Diesel could very well become the highest fuel mileage car of India. The Maruti Alto could also get an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) to rival the upcoming Kwid AMT. The Alto is powered by a 796cc Three-cylinder engine that pumps out a max. power of 48bhp and a peak torque of 69 Nm..

Maruti Alto 800 Diesel Specifications

Quite obviously, the small capacity diesel engine will be the talking point of the new Maruti Suzuki Alto Diesel model. The Alto diesel will share its engine with the Celerio Diesel. This means that powering the upcoming entry-level hatchback will be Suzuki’s new 2-cylinder, 793cc turbocharged Diesel motor that has a maximum power of 47 bhp and peak torque of 120 Nm.

Maruti Alto 800 Diesel Mileage

It is being speculated that this motor will offer an ARAI-rated fuel mileage of 28 kmpl for the Alto Diesel.

Features

The Alto Diesel will be an entry-level hatchback that will be sold in the price-sensitive A-segment of our car market. Hence, the Alto diesel will not offer a host of convenience and comfort features. However, Maruti would offer ABS and at least a driver-side airbag as an optional package.
