For the month of June 2020, Maruti Suzuki has secured the sixth position for the best selling hatchback of India, registering very fewer sales figures.
Maruti Swift is one of the most popular hatchbacks that we have in our country now. Owing to its sporty looks, a fuel efficient and considerably peppy engine, it is preferred by many young generation buyers. From the past couple of years, it has managed to stay in the top 5 selling cars of India as well.
However, for the month of June 2020, its sales considerably went down. Comparing the Y-o-Y sales of Maruti Swift, it is down by 75%. In June 2019, Maruti sold more than 16,000 units of the hatch. Now, in June 2020, the sales went down to just 4013 units. It did not come in the top 10 selling cars of June either.

Manufacturers are still trying to beat the Lockdown Blues, nearly a month after the restrictions were opened. Some of the brands have new launches and that’s why are registering more sales. For others, the sales have gone down by atleast 30-40%, for some, more than 50% as well.
Swift is now a petrol-only hatchback after its reliable 1.3 Litre DDiS diesel engine was discontinued owing to BS6 norms. Now, it gets a 1.2 Litre four-cylinder K12B engine that produces 83 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. The hatch comes with two transmission options including a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT.
Soon, Swift will get a mild-hybrid engine based on the same unit. The 1.2 Litre petrol unit with SHVS technology comes on Dzire and Baleno as well. It will help the Swift in achieving slightly more fuel efficiency and even higher power figures. The launch is expected to happen soon along with a minor facelift.
